  1. Megachurch - Too Big to Fail

    Today I was reading an article about a megachurch which dismissed its pastor because of adultery. I believe the church size was about 5,000 members.

    Is one of the reasons that megachuches fail because they don't have good administrative oversight? Except for the paid staff, all they have is a board of volunteers (elders, trustees, deacons) of uncertain applicable experience who can probably spare maybe 8 hours a month to overseeing the church.   2. Wishful Thinking Pastors

    Two Sundays ago our Pastor announced he was leaving the church for a long-term mission opportunity in Africa. This certainly is an answer to his heart and will be a blessing to him and those he ministers to.

    The issue is we are a small church (only about 10 regular attendees) and can't afford to pay him. He has been working a full time job while pastoring this church.

    So who is going to replace him?

    In his "I'm leaving speech" he spoke so optimistically ...

  3. Aid and Comfort to the Enemy

    I suppose the answer is between God and the person involved. Still I wonder...

    The last time I left a church it was because I saw that despite being called "Christ-Centered" it was actually "Pastor-Centered." Everything was about how wonderful the pastor was. That he was preaching the Health and Wealth / Prosperity / Name it and Claim it gospel (which one dependent on the week) didn't help any.

  4. It seems to me that...

    I have been giving a lot of thought to the place of the Christian church in US society these days. As you wish, please feedback lest I become full of myself and think I have all the answers.

    By church, I mean the body of believers and non-believers who attend a church here in the US. My experience is with Protestantism so these comments may not be fully applicable to Eastern Orthodox or Roman Catholics.
