In Main Category The search for Stability
  #39 New October 10th 2009 07:41 PM
Well... the contract my company had ended.. and then it didn't. We were off for a day, but the government didn't handle the ending of the contract properly, so we were back. And will be until the 28th. At that point... who knows... If my company protests the awarding of the contract, we could be around until January 8th. Maybe.

It's not the kind of stability you look for after being out of work for 4 months, and then working for only 6.

It seems I've been in Richmond for a year or mor ...More Read More

Serious car accident... Layoff resulting in job change... which lasted 3 months rather than the promised 18... 4 months off work... Job 800 miles away... almost 6 months on the job (7 days short of being eligible for vacation).... and a contract that was supposed to renew easily didn't....

And now another $700 to move my stuff back home, a $3200 bill to break the lease, kids moving out of sports and other events here.

I suppose they get to be around their friends again.

And I go ho ...More Read More

Yeah, OK.

I really hate being in a position of not being able to do anything with respect to a decision that will alter your life.

My present job requires a security clearance. A big part of that is your credit. However, I was out of work for three months, and my credit sticks, presently. But it's getting better.

Still, someone, somewhere in a non-descript building will look at my application and my credit and make a decision. If they decide 'no', I lose my job.

And there's noth ...More Read More

If you read the Chaplain's office, you know of my travails at work regarding layoffs and being aboard a sinking ship.

I was offered a job about a month and a half ago, or so, and I felt like I was supposed to turn it down. I used the excuse that my family didn't want to move, but I really didn't know why. I was just pretty sure that I wasn't supposed to take that job.

Well, within a couple of weeks of making that decision, my company started making noises about laying people off and cut ...More Read More

I've been job hunting for a while, and last week I got an offer.

Unfortunately, it's an additional 1/2 hour drive, and realistically, we'd have to move in order for me to accept the position.

Which shouldn't be a big deal, but I think God has something for our family where we're at, and moving 1/2 hour away wouldn't help things.

(Can't comment on what's going on, yet... stay tuned.)

So, I turned down an offer with an apparantly more stable company in a position that I would enjoy mo ...More Read More

Well, for the 8 people on Tweb who actually golf, I have an update:

I not only broke 100 yesterday (first time), I shattered it with a 94 (47-47).

I started out the front 9 with a 7-7 (triple/double bogey), and had an 8(!) on the last par 5 on the back, but managed several good shots (especially on the par 3s) to pull it off.

No birdies, although I had several birdie putts.

Next stop: Breaking 90!

  #29 New June 21st 2005 12:11 PM
We decided not to tell the kids where we were going on vacation, since they all assumed that Dad was too cheap to fly 7 people anywhere, and in the past telling them where we were going resulted in endless pestering about going elsewhere or what we're going to do there or can we do this or not do that.

Not this year. The suspense was killing them, and they were begging for clues.

We told them we were renting a minivan (with 7 people, they weren't pleased), and leaving the state, and not ...More Read More

FRIDAY! Played golf in my league. I had a 9 on the 2nd hole, and STILL shot a 49

Still I could have shot 46.

SATURDAY! I'm helping to coach my 10 year old's soccer team. They won 7-1! They've outscored their opponents 14-3 in the last two games.

(Apparantly some of what we're teaching them is working!)

SUNDAY! Son's HS graduation open house. Lots of people came. It was a lot of work, but relatively fun.

Good weekend, overall.
