That's almost as bad as voting for Obama because he was black.

Please remove my name from the nomination list. I've already been so honored once.

So all of the nominees got voted for once? I'm not sure this experiment worked too well, or how I ended up getting nominated.

No, evidently some of them received multiple votes - the vote total is higher than the number of nominees. However, the period set was longer than the reset period so some people did vote twice (and for themselves - I wanted to see if I could ). So, yeah, needs considerable work.

But to have ten joint winners out of sixteen candidates? That seems a little unlikely, doesn't it?

Only in a system that is working fairly. In one that's all messed up, seems perfectly normal.

Complaints should be pm'd to Chris - frequently. He likes lots of reminders!*

What's coming up on the Deeper Waters podcast? Let's talk about it today on Deeper Waters.

I actually just finished the interview for the Deeper Waters podcast about half an hour or so ago. This time, I interviewed Justin Brierley of Unbelievable? and talked with him about the show Unbelievable? and about the conference of the same name happening annually in the U.K.

Unbelievable? has been one of my favorite shows since I've started listening. Justin Brierley is a wonderful host/moderator who brings on excellent guests and who manages to remain quite neutral in his... read more

    Jesus, Gyroscopes, and You

D.L. Moody in his book “Thoughts for the Quiet Hour” writes, “We need have only one care, that we put the first thing first—faithfulness to God. Then all else we need for both worlds will be supplied. God will never fail us: but we forget, sometimes, in our rejoicing over such an assurance, that we must fulfill our part if we would claim the divine promise. It will not always be easy. To-morrow it may mean a distasteful task, a disagreeable duty, a costly sacrifice for one who does not seem worthy. Life is full of sore testings of our willingness to follow the Good Shepherd. We have not the slightest right to claim this assurance unless we have taken Christ... read more

Are All Beliefs To Be Respected?

    Do we have respect wrong?

Are we misunderstanding respect? Let's talk about it on Deeper Waters.

Quite recently, I have seen several interactions in the internet world with people of different beliefs and each time I have seen statements like "I respect your beliefs" or "Let's all try to respect the beliefs of one another." I understand why some people make such sentiments, but I cannot help but think that they are fundamentally built on an error.

For instance, let's suppose I think a belief is fundamentally false. In fact, not only do I think that the belief is false, but I also think that it is... read more

Jesus wants to be the only life between God and you!

When the going gets tough the tough instead of depending on their own abilities surrender their toughness to an unbeatable God who according to Jeremiah (chapter 29) promises us an unbeatable plan for their lives, and according to the writer of Hebrews “God can’t break his word.”

“When God wanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock-solid guarantee—God can't break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable. We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go. It's an unbreakable spiritual... read more

    The text is as follows:

Are we prepared for missions service? Let's talk about it on Deeper Waters.

Let's suppose your church group was wanting to go on a mission trip to a country in Africa. You were told that you are going to an area where Malaria is common. There is a harmless vaccination you can get to inoculate you against the disease that is also inexpensive. Or, you could go and get it and afterwards have a much harder time recovering from the sickness and enjoying all the effects of it.

    Which one do you do?

I would hope that most of you would say "I'm not going to be foolhardy! By all... read more

    Living the Christian Life

There are times when living the Christian Life doesn’t make any sense to me. Yesterday I quoted, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 ESV) Yet this morning I find myself embattled by the struggles of living a Christian Life in a Me-Me world.

One of my favorite verses I fall back on in order to make sense of living in this Me-Me world is, “I've told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply... read more

    Poythress, Science, and the Bible

Are we fighting the wrong battle?

The link can be found here

    The text is as follows:

What are we to think of the debate on Adam? Let's talk about it on Deeper Waters.

A friend of Deeper Waters recently sent me an article wanting a response. It's written by Vern Poythress and can be found here. My problem mainly with how to approach this is that I am not a scientist. I do not speak in scientific terms and if I have no reason to think that someone has not done strong scientific study, I question their statements. Theologians, philosophers, and historians who wish to speak on science as science should study science as science.

Unfortunately, those in the other camp don't... read more

The Rat Race, God, you, and the rats

The rats are still winning the Rat Race!

Several times I’ve considered dropping out and there have been brief periods of time when I have gone on vacation but the gravitational pull of the race always snags me and brings me back. I really thought once I retired I could graciously resign but no I was mistaken and as the rats continued to race past me I could hear them snickering. One time I did have a chance to talk to one and I asked him what the Rat Race was all about in response to my question he said to me, “Oh, you think we’re in it to win but that’s not our goal, our goal is to beat you into submission. See later loser,” and... read more
