A Glory Seed Devotional
Golden Nuggets from the Psalms…
“Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to You for refuge. I said to the LORD, ‘You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from You.’ The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them! …I will bless the LORD who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety.” (Psalms 16:1-3, 7-9 NLT)
Those golden nuggets are for EVERYONE on this planet who find themselves “walking through the valley of the shadow of death,” clinging to the only thing that keeps them from giving up and throwing in the towel – their faith in God.
These valiant warriors like the men and women of our armed forces, our police persons, and our firefighters are the true heroes our day!
Recently I received an email from one such HERO. I am sure you’ll find his words sobering yet they ring with faith, faith that he is not alone, faith that one day like the Psalmist he will be able to say, “My body rests in safety.”
The lord is my Shepherd, I pray with all my being, expressing my thankfulness for his grace. Yet I wander into moments of fear. I fear that my disease will take a turn that will rob my family of the few resources that I have been able to accumulate through my employment years. I fear that medical bills will be more than we can pay. I take a shot every three weeks that costs $5000.00 each time. Then I thank God for the creation of insurance companies, I thank God for man’s intelligence that he gave us the ability to discover miracle drugs that have the potential to stop the disease for me. I pray, I drink in the faith of my fellow Christians, I study about Jesus yet I still have those moments when depression brought on by fear of the unknown drives me down. I drink in your devotions each day. One of our angels called last evening and spent most of an hour on the phone with me. God Bless you and all of those who serve him in his mission. The Lord is My Shepherd and I know that he has helpers, perhaps like the little sheep dogs that keep turning me back to the security of the family of faith.
He talks about the high cost of medicine – yet the medicine we as believers can give costs nothing (oh, it may cost a postage stamp, or some time) but to someone in the heat of battle words of encouragement whisk them away momentarily from their battlefield safety of God’s Kingdom on earth and nothing is more helpful or valuable to them that and it can make the difference between life and death.
Heroic words from ALL the true heroes and heroines of our day, “I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice.”
Grace and PEACE!
Gary
God, make a fresh start in me,
Shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.
