If time did not exist prior to the creation of the universe, how did God create Jesus before the universe? And if God did not create Jesus before the universe, then why does the Bible say that Jesus created or helped create the entire universe?

Not a debate thread, I would just like a clarification from a JW or several.
Somewhere along the line I think I got confused on a point of your doctrine. Do you believe the wicked are resurrected to be annihilated? Or are they never resurrected and that the annihilation happens at death?
I appreciate any responses to this question.

So I'm going through this book with the JWs called "What Does the Bible Really Teach" and I came across something that I had never heard before in any of the books I've read on refuting them.
The book says this relating to Judgment Day:

Now I didn't really need anything more to show how messed up their beliefs are, but can anyone (paging David Reed!) tell me if this is a new teaching? I was pretty astounded when I read this.

While researching something totally unconnected with the WT&TS I came across an interesting site, which indicates that Russell, Rutherford and Knorr all advocated worship of Jesus. And most amusing of all, the founders of the WT&TS put forward the same arguments justifying such that JWs now argue against.

For the first time in 4 years I have been blessed with the opportunity to witness to the Witnesses. A couple nice ladies are visiting my home once a week.
During our last meeting I mentioned that the name YHWH does not appear in the Greek text of the NT even when the writers were quoting OT verses that contained the name. We are both supposed to be looking into the accuracy of that claim. When I looked up the reference in the book I read it in it simply referenced another book.

The thread "Is Jesus God or a god?" over the last 34+ months has continually been hijacked by apathians*, so I am restarting the topic, but limiting the discussion to the context of John 1:1-3,14 and more particularly "How should John 1:1c (kai theos ēn o logos) be translated and/or understood?"

I can see how Jesus can be considered a god. But, I fail to see how Jesus is Jehovah (YHVH) God, the Father.
Does the bible say no other gods exist?
Truthfully, no pun intended. Show me verses where this is said, I would like to know.
"Thou shall have no other gods before me" is a commandment. But this does not necessarily mean that there are no other gods.

I've only known one family personally, but they never tried to evangelize me.
Other occasions I remember:
Given materials while waiting in a car
Given materials while walking to school-they did not wish to talk
Had materials stuffed in my apartment door
Received an anonymous letter a few days later

Because if that is true then arent you going agianst the very scripture you teach about love and God being the judge not us. Because i am pretty sure in my translation and yours 1 corinthians 13 doesnt say anything like love is patient and love is kind only when others decide to change and act like us. So if this is your practice can you please give me the scripture to back it up in the NWT.

When trying to understand where the Jehovah’s Witnesses have gone off track doctrinally, I have found it useful to put myself in their shoes and view the scripture from their POV. As I try to consider how a text could possibly be harmonized with their teaching, certain details which defy all such attempts usually become apparent. I have a question. I asked it on the LDS board and I'm curious to hear from the JW side.
Assuming there really was an apostacy, what evidence is there to prove that Jehovah's Witnesses have the 'restoration' as opposed to, say, the Mormons?
Latter Day Saints claim the same thing: that there was a great apostacy and THEY are now the 'true church'.
How does one determine who really has this restored gospel?
What evidence is there?

I need to interview a member a a newer religion for a college class. The questions are just basic, like how you got involved with them, what you are taught, how you live out your faith, essentially questions that help get YOUR perspective on life and faith, etc.
I'm supposed to do this in person but I don't know anyone personally from a newer religion so I'm hoping someone here would be willing to do this through PM's or MSN or something.

Before becoming a JW, when studying the Bible with JWs, do they teach not just the good, but also the errors of the organization (it's history) so that people can make a balanced, informed decision? Or do they leave out all the embarrasing parts?
Must a person accept minor details such as the date 1914 in order to be baptized?
Are Jehovah's Witnesses allowed to investigate their own organization? Or to question the Governing Body?
Does the Watchtower tell lies to cover up the sins of the...

I had a debate with a good online JW buddy of mine a while back. It involved the deity of Jesus.
Of course I won (heheheh), but one thing stuck with me after the debate that has boggled me about the JW's ever since. He made a distinction between Jesus, who he called "Mighty God," and YHWH, who he called "Almighty God."
This seemed to root from the prophecy in Isaiah that mentions the Christ as "Mighty God." I suppose that in his mind, a way to explain this without admitting that Christ was,...

Hi!
I have a friend who has become a Jehovah's Witness. We've been talking about different things, and she says that Jesus did not exist when Moses led the exodus out of Egypt.
We were discussing this verse here:
Exodus 17:6 (New International Version)
6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink." So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Isn't that rock Christ? Or is the JW Bible version...

Does resurrection really mean “re-creation”? What exactly is it that JWs are offering their potential converts?

JWs believe that Jesus PRE-EXISTED his birth in Bethlehem as Michael the Archangel.
Therefore, the NWT version which reads, "And the Word was a god," refers to Michael the Archangel - NOT Jesus. This would then mean that Michael the Archangel was NOT a CREATED creature because he was in the beginning with God.

This topic comes up and Jesus and whether he was Jehovah God or part of the trinity.
It is amazing that people will take statements such as Thomas' "My Lord and My God" and draw doctrinal conclusions.
They acknowledge that Thomas was not speaking under inspiration. So how can he be right?
Something also as bad is when people take another scripture, like John 1:1 "The Word was God" and draw doctrinal conclusions. John was another human and his understanding was limited.

Yes, after Jesus told Nathaniel He had seen him "under the fig tree" (in John 1:48), Nathaniel did say, to Jesus, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" (in the next verse, John 1:49)
He obviously did not say, "God the Son".
I don't know what he was thinking, as far as if Jesus is God or not. But we do see how people worshiped Jesus and He seemed to be OK about this. But in revelation, when John fell down to worship an angel, THAT was NOT OK with the ANGEL > see...

I read a watchtower magazine a few months ago, which had as its main article the question in big writing: Who Really Rules the world? The answer, much to my surprise, was not God or even Jesus, but SATAN! I just did a search and the article is available on their website: http://www.watchtower.org/e/t22/article_01.htm

Hello!
Can JW explain what is their execetical intepretation methodology of Scripture?
We all know classical "Scripture explains Scripture" but this is not sufficient as it is not clear which scripture expalins which scripture or in other words, whcih scriptures are doctrinally basic ones, and which are explainable by those basic scripture?
What is "explanatory" hierarchy of OT/NT books?
Does JW takes into account genre of the book - is it law, sayings, poems, songs, strories, chronicles?

My friend invited me to the memorial service this past Nissan 14. I didn't go, but it made me curious: what exactly is remembered? In the Orthodox Church the Eucharist is much more than a memorial service, but even when I was a Protestant I knew we were memorializing Jesus and His death and resurrection.
So, in that vein, what, exactly, do JWs remember? :smile:

I have often wondered what would happen if this hypothetical situation took place and I'd like to know how some JWs would respond.
Let's suppose that the Watchtower came out with a publication next month that said, "Hey everyone. It turns out we were wrong about the Trinity. It really is a true doctrine."

It is my understanding that JW's believe they will be raised to life and be like pre-fallen Adam. Thing is, Adam was created mortal and subject to death. It is written that believers will put on immortality never again to be subject to death.
How would a JW go about reconciling this apparent contradiction?
