I'm actually Scottish, Irish, English, Dutch and German so I apologize for the ignorance of my question but the topic of the Third Temple fascinates me. I ran into a tradition that a replica was made of the Arc of the Covenant during the time of King Solomon. Apparently he was shown that the temple would be defiled so he took appropriate actions. One tradition has it that the real Arc was taken to Ethiopia.

Have I told anybod at Tweb yet just how much I **love** this section!!!
In our gym debate, Yoshi took exception with me that salvation in the O.T. came about through COMPLETE and TOTAL observance of Torah/Pentateuch. So, I've asked several theologians what their perspective was on salvation in Judaism as well as looked on the web and the general consensus seems to be GOOD WORKS. I know that Jews tend to reject the notion that certain passages from the OT (e.g., Isaiah 53) pointed to Jesus. As far as I'm aware, though, most Jews still believe that a Messiah will one day appear. Presumably, they base this idea on scriptures other than Isaiah 53. What exactly this Messiah is supposed to do I'm not sure. Anyway, I'm not real conversant in OT prophecy, so could you guys give me some places where the OT does point toward a Messiah? Here is a question that I'm not sure how to put. But I will try to ask this in a simple way. The other night I took my kids to watch a movie, 'Transformers' was it. I was not interested in it, so went to watch 'Angels and Demons' just because Tom Hanks played in it. John Goddard and I had an argument about this point of view -Jesus is the Son of David who God caused to die for David's sin with Bathsheba, then Jesus was resurrected into Mary to die for the sins of the world.
I don't believe this view point nor the reasons for assuming that Jesus was re-resurrected into Mary and then re-died all over again - I believe that the passage that was given when Nathan approached David did set the tone for the future Messiah on forgiveness and on sacrificing...

In the New Testament, there are a number of instances where Jews did not eat with Gentiles. In Galatians, Peter does not sit at the same table with Gentiles after Jews from Jerusalem arrive and castigate Peter for his behavior.
Do you know if Peter had originally broken Mosaic Law when he sat and dined with Gentiles?

Hi, I hope you don't mind this question, any who are born Jewish or of the Jewish religion. I get confused sometimes. I think of the lost tribes of Israel, those tribes to the north, that were sent away before Judah or Judaiah was to Babylon. Anyhow, I have often thought that Jewish =the tribe of Judah, related to David, maybe Benjamin and some of the tribes of Levi, priests, but other than that, not related to the lost tribes. So when I read 'the whole of Israel' in the old (and new)...

The concept of a "Messianic Jew" flys in the face of both Judaism, and Christianity.
In Judaism, the idea of an "incarnate God" is heresy. --- In Christianity, all temporal (i.e, physical, social, religious) tags are disolved by reason of the fact that the Christian dies to all human, social, or religious reality, when he dies with Christ on the cross.

The Hebrew word (yada) translated "knew" as in "Adam knew his wife," doesn't necessarily imply that he had sexual contact with Eve, per the general (pshat) interpretation. My family and I visited the Holocaust museum in Washington DC on Saturday. Unfortunately, we got there too late for the special exhibits, but we did get to walk through the "kids display", which was entitled "Daniel's Diary". Judaism bases a big portion of its belief regarding the moshiach on the teachings of the RAMBAM.
One of those criteria is that moshiach will fight the battles of God in defending Israel.
However, when one reviews the endtimes prophecies found in the ot (Tanach to Jews), there is no man-king moshiach coming to the rescue in the text as Judaism claims.

I would suggest that the "consistency" is in the eye of the exegete and not in the sacred text itself. ---- In other words, the exegete is likely to seek deeper (derash) meaning that is consistent with his Jewish predispositon, and not seek a deeper meaning which justifies a Christian reading of the text.
