What resources would you recommend for researching the justifications given for Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox doctrines? I especially want to know about arguments for one tradition over the other, more than general apologetics.

I have been reading a homily by St. Gregory Palamas on Peter and Paul, and was struck at his profound understanding of the Life of Peter. I think his sin was greater than that of Judas, who only wanted some money, and I think the two lives show the difference in our response to sins that we commit.
Peter's sin that went before his fall was PRIDE... And THAT is THE sin of Lucifer... So great and eggregious was this pride that Peter puffed himself up WAY above his brother Apostles, and...

Relics became ingrained in Catholic Church orthodoxy at the Second Council of Nicaea in 787, when church authorities passed a law stating that every church should have a relic at its altar. The punishment for failing to obey: excommunication. But ever since the reforms of Vatican II in the early 1960s, relic veneration has virtually disappeared from the official landscape of Catholicism, particularly in the United States.

I've been trying to figure out a relatively short creed (not anything official) that I could give to people when they ask for an overview of my faith. Here is what I've hammered out so far:
I believe in one God, who from all eternity and to all eternity exists in three distinct, coeternal, and coequal persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one in essence, not personhood.
I believe in the Father, the Glorious Source of the Trinity, the Maker of All Things

An EO can participate at any EO church, right? And when he is unable to attend an EO church, he may participate at a Catholic church, right?
So what about if he is visiting Catholic Mass at his university during the week?
Also, what if he is visiting an Oriental Orthodox church?

It appears there has been a split on the Energetic Procession blog--a fairly prominent Orthodox theology/philosophy blog. I check in there once in a while and occasionally post. This is the best movie I have seen since OSTROV - It is a documentary of the building of a monastery from an old castle in Denmark ... And it requires VERY careful attention, for it is the story of the salvation of a soul, the very lost soul of the driven and elderly man who dies in the movie... When I became Orthodox, I suspected that I would mostly be debating Protestants, and Roman Catholics would be situational allies in those situations. To my surprise, I have actually spent more time debating the papacy than I have debating Protestants. This is mostly due to a Roman Catholic monk who is a bit obsessed with making me Roman Catholic before I am chrismated. Anyways, I wanted to make this topic about the fathers. I understand that this verse is used a lot to justify the pope in Catholic theology. The only other interpretation I remember hearing of this came from a Catholic describing his faith versus protestants.
What are the typical Protestant and Orthodox understandings of this verse?

I remember when I was a teen, probably 16 or 17, I saw a nun where I worked with this enormous rosary. I loved it, and wanted one, but wasn't Catholic.
I have been praying the Jesus prayer for a while now, in the 33 prayer style, and wanted a better counter for my prayers than the Basque Rosary I purchased from the Vatican years ago.
So I made my own.
The beads are copper and the cross is brass. While I realize now that a red would have offset it more effectively, this was a very cost...

This all happend a couple years ago, but a recent conversation brought this back to me.
My grandfather is a recovered alcholic, and he actually left the church he used to go to, b/c they served real wine(instead of grape juice, or a non-alcholic alternitive) in , and he wasnt comfortable drinking even that little bit, and when he brought it up to the church leadership they pretty much ignored him.
My question is basicly does communine have to involve real wine, or is non-alcholic grape...

I think maybe one of the things that may help different traditions to understand each other is to define what one means when one says "Church" when referring to what Christ established on the earth.
I'd like to include:
1) A general definition of the Church (Feel free to interpret this as the True Church tm if that helps to distinguish yours from others, if you feel that is necessary)
2) How you get in (if possible)
3) How you get out (if possible)
4) Is salvation possible to gain/retain...

This idea has been rolling around in my head for a while, and I have a few thoughts, but I just can't seem to wrap my mind around what a church that is radically different from the current flow of feminized, feeler oriented churches that seem to prevalent in the US today.
So, what would a "thinking" church look like? How would it be different? How would it express mandates to help the orphan and the widow? What would a vision/mission statement look like?

I am currently a (semi) dedicated Trinitarian Pentecostal Christian. I have come into conflict with a number of the teachings and the severe self-centeredness of the preaching and theology. I have been researching Catholicism and Orthodoxy for the last year. I don't have the freedom to move yet because I still live with my parents. But I really need to hear about the conversion processes of others to either Catholicism or Orthodoxy.

Can it happen? I don't this thread to be many anti-Catholic/Orthodox statements but I would like to ask those who belong to these Churches to tell me their thoughts on if a reconciliation is possible. It's only been 1000 years since the split, how hard could it be?

I've been thinking about this topic for awhile. I want to try this definition out to see what kind of response I get. I will add some explanation for clarities sake.

"A relational assembly, that has the Holy Spirit, who meets together to relate to God and each other through Jesus Christ."
Only God knows what core belief is necessary for one to receive the Holy Spirit. In other words, one can have an orthodox verbal profession of Christ and not be converted based on heart condition...

I've been doing some reading, trying to discover the basis for some of the doctrines of Mary that the RCC and EO apparently hold. I realize that they may be different, so feel free to point those out.
I found an article here that essentially makes three arguments:

While I personally consider SDAs to be brothers and sisters in Christ as a Baptist(maybe off-base, but at the core followers of Christ), I know that many of them would not consider me their sister, because I do not keep the food laws or sabbath. I really want to talk some more on the SDA church, if anyone's up for it. Adventism is interesting to me personally, because a few of my closest friends are SDA. And yes, we talk all the time about this. I'd just like to see what others think.

I found a link on OrthodoxInfo.com about a scholarly article stating that monks escaping North Africa from Arian Vandal persecution arrived in Connecticut. There is evidence of Greek monograms, the ICHTHYS, the cathedra, baptismal fonts, an altar, candelabras, etc. Possibly there is even evidence of old writings, some in Greek of a style known in 5th century North Africa, others in a language spoken by Canadian Native Americans. The following question and answer showed up in my e-mail today. I have never seen this question approached in this way. The one who answered it is an Archimandrite and the Abbot of an Eastern Orthodox Christian Monastery.
His reference to Christ's response to Peter regarding John as a key to the answer itself answers those of the followers of the "See of Peter", I should think, in their quest for Communion with the Orthodox. eg It is not by reference to earthly relationships that...
