Therapy and medication will work in the long term for most but I ask this question for myself and for others on here that may also be down in the dumps with anxiety/depression etc...
If I didn't have children I'm sure my list would be longer as I would be able to take long walks or take the subway to Central Park and stay for hours etc....but, as it is, I must wait for them to go to bed before attempting some remedy for a quick healing of the spirits.
What do you suggest. Short and sweet is...

This was inspired by Fred Flanders' thread about him fancying a 15 year old when he was 27.

Now, I'm not sure what it's like wherever you live, but when you're in school here, you're taught about "Fair Weather Friends" - people who are just friends with you for something, perhaps material wealth or because you're "cool"... and you're taught all about the importance of making sure you only have "real" friends, and so on.

I had a friend who took a marriage class at college and he said that in the course, he was told that only 1 percent of couples who pray together get divorced. I've seen a few other similar stats around the internet but can't find reference to a study. Does anyone have an idea about this?

I know there is a passage that states "Be slow to anger" but in applying that to practical living for someone who's prone to a quick rise in blood pressure at spouse,children etc....how do actually do that? Is it just a matter of "catching yourself" at that moment, walking away, deep breaths.....or is there an additional step Christians should take to be a more calm and peaceful person who is slow to anger. I dunno why I haven't asked for advice here below (or maybe I have). I have a really difficult time concentrating on actual work. I can concentrate on computer games, or long tweb discussions, but when it comes to doing some actual work that I plan on living off, I just freeze, find other distractions, and do everything except what I'm supposed to be doing. And no, it's not tweb per se. I had pig ban me a week or so ago and I just found other distractions to keep me busy. Any advice?

what is fear? I would say the fear is an instinctual reaction to the unknown, incomprehensible or to that which lies outside ability to understand. This reaction can be controlled to some extent by sheer force of will and one's willingness to accept the strange, often confusing world in which we live. However, no matter how hard you try, you can never escape that initial gut reaction.
Why is that? Where does it come from? What part of our psyche is responsible? Thoughts?

This show follows cases of people with OCD that are treated with cognitive behavioural therapy for 12 weeks. I just watched the one with Christa. After watching that one, I believe that this show can be very exploitive and wrong.
Christa had way too many problems that could be fixed in 12 weeks. At the end, she told her therapist "I don't want you to go." But that was it. We treat you for 12 weeks to entertain people, and then you are thrown back in. Within a month she relapsed. It was...

Many times, I, a celibate evangelist, am taught lessons by family people.
Three days ago I visited a persecuted church in a remote place in India. Here they run a school for poor children. One lady teacher had a small boy in that school. He was always in bad mood as his mother tended other children. So whenever she came near he kicked and boxed her. She bore with it patiently.
Many times I had seen parents being abused by small children at home, but not such publicly.

I tend not to be too health conscious. I don't drink soda, chips or fast food only b/c it doesn't appeal to me. I enjoy food but my day consist of downing coffee, bananas, granola bars and for dinner i'll either have cereal, a sandwich or any good helping of solely beef or chicken with no sides.
I notice most especially in the evening I am very prone to anxiety. I get bouts of insomnia b/c I stay up worrying about my children, their future, the state of the world and my shaky faith in God. I...

The Shadowmaster was wondering why there are no liberal talk shows to speak of. One internet site offered these reasons.
Because no one believes them thus no audience and no advertisers
because no one wants to hear someone whine, *****, moan about their own country for 3 hours. thats why libs can't make it on talk radio.

Just started this book. Has anyone else read it (by andrew keen)? His argument is that the glut of amateur-generated content, mostly online, is putting traditional content, and therefore the continual production of high-quality culture, at risk.
I found his arguments to be cogent, interesting, and very, very wrong. Was just curious to hear what other people think about this.

Blood relations destroy; spiritual relation saves.
My history professor father was an avowed atheist, preaching that in class, family and among friends. He said that there is no God, soul and afterlife. This produced suicidal depression in me. Then, why continue this meaningless miserable existence? So in childhood I often contemplated suicide whenever disciplined. But others said suicide is sin and the eternal soul suffers for it after suicide.
So, to save my soul, I fled home at 12 years...

Yeah, OK, Darthie expresses things in a earthy kind of generalization that isn't exactly endearing.
But there is something of a nugget of truth with regard to many women, is there not?
I mean the spectre of feeling sorry for Angelina Jolie because she's upset that her man is playing the role of an older lover to a younger hottie in a movie. Um.. That's what he does for a living.

So, I've been curious for a while as to whether there was any correlation between the MBTI psychological types, and people's results of the "five love languages" preference indicator. So, in lieu of doing a proper psychological study, I'm going to try a survey here on TWeb... if as many people as possible could post their Myers-Briggs and Love Languages results, we shall see if we can spot any patterns.
If you haven't done any of the tests, there's one here for "love languages"......

I just went a whole week without going to any of my classes. I couldn't get myself out there, couldn't get myself out of bed. I'm hoping come monday my situation will be better, but I know I'll probably wake up even more blue than I am now. This is getting frustrating, I've lost more and more motivation to do anything, even things I like doing, over the past year. Once things you like start to feel like a second job I think its time to be worried.

This is certainly related to my depression, but it's gotten considerably worse over the past few months. I have zero motivation to do anything, to the point where I might as well be catatonic. This is bad as I'm in my last semester at school, and need the motivation to even show up to class, let alone get through it successfully. Any help would be appreciated (I've been to psychologists and doctors before, but they've been virtually useless).

If you are familiar with the Myers-Briggs theory of personality, I'm interested in your answers to two questions.
Firstly, what are your Myers-Briggs preferences, and which (if any) are you unsure of?

Yesterday morning while I was waiting for everyone else to wake up, I read the news. There was a story about a man in a Santa suit who shot up a party, and then set the house on fire. I was intrigued because the house was in the neighborhood I lived in when I was in high school, and for some reason that made the story more interesting to me, so I pursued it some more today.

Here one demented old Hindu father roams the streets shouting abuses to drug dealers. He lost all his three sons due to power-heroin addiction. Okay. I was at the Y today with Rayado and another friend of ours and we were working out and this friend was showing us how to do some exercises. They involved taking some weights and holding them in a certain position and lifting them up together. Now I saw Rayado do this and thought "Yeah. I can do that." So I sit down with the weights.
Now this has nothing to do with the weight of what I was lifting at all. However, I noticed something odd. For awhile, I could not seem to hold them right....

I posted earlier today about my grandmother and how I was heading back to Knoxville to see her. Well, I saw my Dad first at the hospital and my mother was at home so we thought we'd surprise her.
She was surprised! However, she kept telling me that she had this feeling that I was going to be showing up when I heard about my grandmother.

yes I know what the dictionary says :ahem: but how can you say your "In" love with someone when its just love... can you be "In love" with more than one person? obviously we love more than one person at a time...is there a big difference?

First of all...I wasn't exactly sure where to put this thread, so until (if) someone moves it, it stays here...
I've got a classmate and a good friend who was doing a research project on the negative effects of pornography on youth. It was a good project and pretty in depth. Granted, he had a ways to go and still had a lot to do in the project, but the foundation and purpose of the project was a good one.
Huggy bear and I did really well in the class and the prof loved us and her project...

I lost the link (I think it was on Wired or Digg) about some study claiming that except for the severely clinically depressed, antidepressants (limited to SSRIs) do not work any better than placebos. Meaning I suppose that thinking one is getting medical assistance is enough to pull oneself up out of the pit.
