I am also curious about the tribulational flavors we have here. What I am asking is what position do you take on the timing on the Great Tribulation in the Olivet Discourse and Revelation in general. I know that a particular category may not fit everyone precisely, this is just to get a general feel for our demographics.

I've been listening to a lot of end-times podcasts (DDW's in particular) and reading stuff online.
I find myself still hard to understand dispensational futurism.
In this case, I am not sure what the dispensational futurist hermanutic is. What is the actual interpretative method?
How does dispensationalism decide issue of genre for instance? Some of my non-dispie peers talked about determining the Genre of Ezekiel, Daniel and Revelations in a certain way: what other kind of similar...

For those who believe that “this generation” in the OD meant Jesus’ generation, here’s something that sort of perplexes me.

Yes, I am now an orthodox preterist. :yipee: After a long time of studying different eschatological positions, I've come to the conclusion that preterism has the best hermeneutics and is the most consistent with the scriptures.

In Rev. 6:14, John says "every mountain and island were moved out of their places." Most interpreters try to explain this as some sort of cataclysmic event, such as a world-wide earthquake.
Jesus connected mountains with faith. He spoke of faith that could move mountains.
I suggest that the mountains and islands referred to in John's prophecy are symbolic; they represent things that we can have faith in: God's promises. David compared God's righteousness to great mountains.

As an occasional visitor, I noted a question about the supposed "360-day year" in the Bible. The OP asked for a source to debunk it. Frankly, I found myself disinclined to read through 100+ posts to see if anyone had presented the proper case.

Can someone point me where there is scriptural evidence for the Second Coming...that is not referenced with a "soon", "at hand", etc...language?
...since this could be speaking of his coming in judgement on Jerusalem in 70AD.

I was reading th book of Timothy once again, and I don't know why I never really noticed this before...
2 Timothy 2:18 "Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some."
Revelation 20:4-6 mentions a resurrection before the so-called millennium (thus hasn't happened yet, according to premills), so am I reading something into this that isn't there, or is it that I perhaps don't understand how postmills and amills interpret Rev...

Could someone give me a few good passages that explain why postmillennialism is better than amillennialism? Looking at the pessimism in 1 and 2 Timothy regarding the unstoppable heretic uprising, John's talk about "antichrists," various parables of Jesus such as the Tares and the Ten Virgins, and my own observations that many "Christians" are false teachers who are probably unsaved, I'm having a little trouble buying the idea that true Christianity will sweep the globe.

I've often heard it said that the disciples did not know about the 2nd coming while Jesus was teaching the olivet discourse. Some have even said that they didn't even know or understand that he was leaving them.
Mark 8:31 says this - And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
So isn't that evidence that they knew he would be killed before he gave the OD?...

Its raining outside, and no-ones coming out to play, so I spent the day looking up old TWeb posts in Eschatology. I came across one started by Dee Dee asking what we prets do when a blatantly futurist song is sang in church. Then Lizard (I think it was Lizard) referenced the song "These Are the Days of Elijah" as, not only eschatologically incorrect, but also theologically correct.
Now, this reminded me of a thought I had when singing that song in church.....what the hell does this song...

My view is pre-millennial post-trib.
A few facts:
Christ's return will have been imminent the day He returns. Need no verse for this truth.
Christ entered once into heaven, just as He died once on the cross. (see Hebrews 9:12, 24, 28. 10:10.)
Christ's return will be visable. (Titus 1:13; Matthew 24:27-31; Revelation 1:7.)

In the flood story in Genesis, the two birds released by Noah, after the ark had became grounded on a mountain, become the focus of several verses.
Ravens are large black birds, and they are inquisitive, cunning, and bold. They form societies. Pliny noted their ability to learn to speak. Preterists claim that Revelation paints a clear portrait of the events happening shortly after its writing due to the "near", "shortly" and "soon" time texts. So much for that. The events in these verses did not happen for hundreds of years afterwards, assuming they've even happened yet. Double fulfillment gains yet more ground.

What is the relation between the characteristics of the mountains of the promised land, and their use as symbols in prophecy?
In Psalm 114, David said that the mountains "skipped like lambs" and little hills, "like lambs," when Israel went out of Egypt. How did the mountains skip? These cannot be literal mountains. They would have to become airborne, if they were to literally skip like lambs!

When it comes to dispensetionalism, the endless charts, books like "88 reasons why Jesus is coming in 1988" and other similiar and popular "end times" types things, color me skeptical to put in the mildest way possible.
I can't say, however, that eschatology has been a huge area for me, although I nominally believed dispensetionalism for a bit.

Well, I was talking to my dad the other day, who is firmly dispensationalist and so believes in a Pre-Tribulation Rapture, and I asked him about 1 Thess. 5, which refers to the "day of the Lord." He believes the "day of the Lord" is the literal 7-year Tribulation followed by the 1,000-year literal reign of Christ on Earth. Let me say from the start that I consider eschatology to pale in comparison to the importance of striving to discern and obey the will of God in every minute of every day. An absolutely unassailable understanding of the "time of the end" would be worth little when weighed against one's responsibility to further the kingdom of heaven in these present days. I suspect that Satan had at least a rough guess as to when Christ would come the first time.

At Luke 21:23-24 Jesus said,

I embraced the partial preterist view about two years ago but I've had trouble reconciling zechariah chapters 12-14 with the partial preterist view. To be honest the chapters appear to support the dispensational and premill views.:dizzy: I'm really confused and would like some help?

I'm not sure if this belongs in eschatology or not but this part of Daniel does usually deal with "the end" This passage is difficult since while it seems to be about Antiochus still, what is said hardly fits Antiochus and still leaves a big gap between him and Jesus. I was trying to see if anyone fits and Augustus seems to fit rather well seeing as Rome... well you know. Is important. Anyway here.

It is only in the last few years that I have become aware of a great destruction of the Jewish people that was not written about by Josephus. It happened after his death.

We need to determine what the seven trumpets are, beginning in Revelation 8:1, and to what extent those things have been completed. One reason for starting with the trumpets is due to the debates concerning preterism and what things of Revelation were completed in the first century AD. I'm one of you but I'm confused on something. Is Israel going to be judged just like all the other nations in the OT at the end? I beleive that Jesus comes back when Isreal accepts Him as the messiah. I imagine at least some of you would agree with that but I didn't come here to argue that point. I just am trying to figure out if Israel will be judged along with the other nations. Eschatology is not my forte.

I do not think God used a 360 day year for prophecy. I haven't been able to find any discussion about the 360 day prophetic year theory here. Is there a definitive thread about it anywhere here? If not, perhaps someone can give biblical evidence that disproves the 360 day prophetic year theory. I have not had much success when discussing this with those who hold to the theory. Since the section seems to be dominated by preterist threads, I just thought I'd make one to even the scales.
I believe that the Olivet Discourse was bi-lateral -- fulfilled and to be fulfilled in the future (history will repeat itself). I believe that Jesus did not make a mistake about his second coming.
