I am curious about this passage in Matthew 11:
As I understand this, Jesus visited Korazin and Bethsaida with the aim of persuading the citizens to repent, performg miracles to support his sermons, however, he failed to convince any significant number of people, and so denounces the whole cities.*
The simple message here is that the people of Korazin and Bethsaida are in deep doo-doo because they saw the miracles, and still were not persuaded to repent, in contrast to Tyre and Sidon, where...

In re: the phrase "Jesus, who is called Christ."
In the Greek New Testaments (GNTs) based on the contents of codices Sinaiticus (01) and Vaticanus (03), you'll see Greek lettering equivalent to ᾿Ιησοῦς ὁ λεγόμενος Χριστός. This wording was purportedly prepared according to the content of Papyrus 1 (P1). But, there's a problem in the wording of codices 01 and 03 at Matt. 1:16 and, consequently, in the GNTs which rely on their wording.

If I understand correctly, the historical definition of Fundamentalism was, "Adhering to the five foundational truths of Christianity.", which were (in no particular order):
1) The inspiration of the Bible (and thus the innerancy of Scripture).
2) The substitutionary atonement of Christ.
3) The bodily resurrection of Christ.
4) The authenticity of Christ's miracles.
5) The virgin birth.

According to Matthew 3:2 John the Baptist said, "he kingdom of heaven is at hand.", and according to Mark 1:15 and Matthew 4:17 Jesus also said, "(The time is fulfilled, and) the kingdom of God/of heaven is at hand." I strongly doubt the existence of a discrete document Q (from Quelle), that Matthew and Luke supposedly used as their source along with Mark -- though that thesis is widely accepted among New Testament scholars (perhaps not among English ones). The remnants of the oldest known Bible codex is now unified on line, but unfortunately I have not been able to access it yet. It apparently dates to near the time of Constantine's conversion, and there are significant differences between this version and the later and contemporary Bibles. A couple of people and I will be leading a Bible study discussion on prayer. I have delved heavily into the Old Testament in order to show an appreciation for what we have when we pray.
I am trying to show that for all the work that Solomon did to make a House for the Lord, he still humbly recognized that nothing made by human hands was worthy of the Lord's presence. However, as born again believers today, we have God Himself, the Holy Spirit, residing inside of us... something infinite...

Was it wise for god to give humans free will with their salvation at stake?
If we know what is best for our loved ones then is it not better to limit their free will?
Example - I don't let my 3 year old son cross the road by himself because I want to protect him since I love him.
Should god not have also protected Adam and Eve from the tree if he truly loved them and wanted the best for them?

The pro-NO-God folks occasionally accuse God of ordering His humans to go and murder some other humans. Also, they charge Bible-God with murdering all the humans (save 8) with The Flood.
But is this reasonable.
Don't you have to be 'a fellow human' in order to "murder" another human, and God is transcendent.

I say 'again' because I know this isn't a new question.
The Good Book says God is "not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance" ( 2 Peter 3:9 )
but not all come to repentance since "...and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." ( Matthew 7:13 )

I liked the Simpsons for many years, really liked them.
But lately I feel like the Simpsons is just taking cheap shots at religion without relying on a hint of comedy at all.
Is it just me? Tonight before I watched the new episode I thought to myself "Jeez, I hope that they spare me the "Jesus is fake and Catholics suck" bit.

Another question I have always wondered and never heard explored is whether anyone thinks Eve and then Adam, genuinely had a choice. It's clear to me she didn't have much of a chance
1) The commandment to not eat of the tree was given before she was created
2) She (and Adam) were apparently naive, being "without the knowldge of good and evil"
3) She was subject to the temptation of the Serpent who was "more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made," and

This is a question I've yet to see asked and it has dogged me for years. Any feedback from people of faith would be most appreciated.
I am an atheist, but I believe I lead a decent life. Not perfect of course, but I know I avoid harming others as best I can. If I am wrong and there is some kind of judgment after death, will I be damned for all eternity because I don't believe in god? Or will my actions be what counts?

Do other primates, like chimpanzees, orangutans, capuchin monkeys, etc., have souls?
What about other animals, like bottlenose dolphins, dogs, pigs, cats, rats, flies, etc.?
What about earlier hominids, like Neanderthals, Homo habilis, Homo ergaster, Homo erectus, etc.?

Is there any scriptural help as to why the plan of salvation involving Jesus occurred so many years after the "event" in the Garden of Eden? Per the Bible, the disobedience of Eve in the Garden of Eden was the cause of the "fall" of mankind whereby all humans were born in sin. This required Jesus' sacrifice to undo the damage thus done. If the soul exists, it seems that it is involved somehow in our daily actions (our soul is essentially us, and we make decisions on a daily basis). Is it true that our daily actions have some supernatural component, or do our daily actions have no supernatural component, not even the soul? If it's the latter, is the soul not supernatural?

I saw this post in a non-atheist thread.
Both something that AP said and quotes really confuses me. It is the "He destroys all that is not us..." and "...with your help, I will become myself." Well, the actual phrases are quite normal and easy to understand... that isn't the confusing part.

There is a problem with how Church Orthodoxy is determined by using Creeds or other man made doctrines. The premises is to discuss what standard are being used in determining what is historical church orthodoxy. Hello all! I have read the prophecies in Daniel 9 and have read that,when Messiah is supposed to come, the amount of days in the prophecy add up to the time of Jesus' Crucifixion or Triumphal Entry.However I am not the math whiz, nor do I have access to a calendar before the time of Christ, so can anybody verify that this is accurate?

It seems to me that the majority of modern evangelicals reject the Calvinist / Arminian view of grace, and in fact hold a very different view.
All three (Calvinism, Arminianism, popular evangelicalism) agree that salvation is by faith alone, and that believers are saved through belief and trust in the work of Christ on the cross.
Yet Calvinism asserts that fallen humans are fundamentally incapable of putting their trust in Christ without God supernaturally altering their nature/psychology....

Is there time in Heaven. Are there any clocks. This is a very simple question... or possibly a very complicated one.
If there is no such thing as time in as we know it, this would explain how God knows what we are going to do before we know it: ie, predestination as we know it.
If there is "time" and God has to obey the same laws of nature as us, then possibly this explains "free-will" a1s we like to describe it.
Simple or complicated??? What say you?

Lets say that if I was 2 speak 2 someone in Thai and they understood what i was saying and we were pointing at u and laughing. would u want 2 know what we were saying. the same thing if i was in a church and someone was speaking in toungs I want 2 know what they are saying. atlast they have know one that can interpret so i can understand what they are saying. Therfore if their is no one to interpret they should not speak in toungs. That is what the Bible says.
