The best way to explain Theonomy is is to spell it out in its barest most basic form, and then to subject that explanation to a whole bunch of frequently (and not so frequently) asked questions, so that the theonomists can, by answering them, spell out the nuances of his position. I've been wondering about this question because when I was trying on different religions, before I came back to faith, I practiced meditation. It wasn't a daily practice but it was frequent. I would practice what is known as "Mindfulness Meditation" it helped me with my depression issues.

Ok, this may seem whiney, but whatever. I'm just trying to get advice here.
So, there is a girl who I have an interest in, and we've grown close.

There is a new round of criticism, particularly in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) about women serving in the Military.
In the US, I believe our current position is that women can serve, but not in direct combat operations.

I've been listening to :btc: and reading a bit in the LDS forum, both with respect to marriage, and been thinking a bit about the history of marriage and how/why we do marriage as we do.
As :btc: points out, back in Christ's day and before (and to some extent afterwards), marriage was a contract between a Father and a Groom to care for the daughter/wife. So I've decided I need to get more regilar with the daily prayer and Bible reading. Now, I've heard that it's best to do this in the morning. But I'm not much of a morning person (not counting my recent insomnia).
Is there any Biblical reason why I can't do devotions in the mid afternoon when it's easier for me to stay awake? I don't think there is. But I could be wrong.
Btw, this is not some legalistic trip I'm on. I know that devotions are optional for salvation and all that. I'm doing this...

I love the ESV Bible. One of my problems with it though has been that it does not capitalize the pronouns in reference to God. I'm guessing the reason for this (following the late Bruce Metzger and other scholars) is that no such distinction in pronouns is present in the original Greek of the New Testament (I'm avoiding the OT here, because I assume NT praxis is more pertinent as an example to believers today).

I'm wondering if anyone knowledgeable of early church history could help me out here. I would like to know if members of the early church defended themselves/families/innocents/etc. with violence in personal situations when the need arised. Also, it would be great information to have as well if you know what they said about the morality of violent self-defense, and why they held that certain position.

Hi guys. Forgive me, but I am about to condone a product (it's a free download). I've been reading the book "Every Man's Battle" and have been looking up ways to block out sexual images on the internet. Recently, I found a free program called k9webprotection. You can set moderation levels - and it is VERY meticulous in its search. For example:

I think it is horrible, the way the Gospel is being mercahndised on Tv by Televangelists and others. It causes the Gospel to be "with charge." If you can't afford the latest book or tapes offered at $49.95 plus shipping and handling, then you can just do without. Since when does the Bible say to use the Gospel for self enrichment. A soldier, if captured, is certainly not going to volunteer the truth about where his unit was going, or what their mission was.

I have a good friend who is attempting to get churches to train every qualified member of the congregation to minister in some fashion. Some may be prayer warriors, some teachers, some can visit the sick, some may decide to have a food ministry, etc. But, the feeling is that the church should be training every qualified person for ministry of somekind. I always wanted to know: how would you approach a transgender regarding their lifestyle?
If condemning a homosexual's lifestyle wasn't touchy enough, I've always felt the transgender issue was alot more difficult.

I have heard a lot discussed about alcohol and Christianity. Some people even saying that Jesus didn't turn water into wine, but rather water into grape juice.. I have also heard that had that family who was having a wedding when Jesus was attending had run out of wine-they could literally have been sued by the guests!
Obviously, alcoholism is discussed in the Bible. ("Wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler...")

Anyway, of course I believe they are, I'm a Christian, but recently on some internet exchange I've been having I have met an atheist who naturally argues that they arn't. This argument was specifically aimed at homosexuality, but I guess it could be used to undermine other Christian Laws.
I'm really not sure if it should be posted here: perhaps aplogetics or philosophy would be more appropriat.
