Since the laptop I have now initially was owned by Mossy, it's getting really old and slow and out of memory. Mac is too expensive, and Linux is too difficult since I'm not familiar with it. So Windows is it. But any ideas for good laptops? Brands? Tech details? I don't really want anything special. Except maybe a good graphics thingy so I youtube and HD vidoes aren't choppy. At least a couple USB ports.....can't think of any other specifics right now. Any ideas?

It comes out in a few days. I want to upgrade, but I am going to wait a few months to see how it works out. I also need a larger notebook hard drive so I will wait till I can afford that and then do the upgrade on the new drive. so I can swap back if I change my mind.

OK, suddenly WMP is flaking out on me, and won't auto detect the aspect ratio properly when I watch a DVD. It's obviously supposed to be widescreen, but it's squishing the picture up so it's not-so-widescreen. This bothers me to no end because it is a huge distraction. Anyone know of any free or cheap downloadable programs for watching DVDs that let you manually set the aspect ratio? Or do any of you know how to fix WMP? It's version 11.

I am interested in getting an ebook reader, preferrably one that has PDF compatibility (though other popular formats like TXT would be nice), and also has a backlight or frontlight. However, there are many, and I have only recently found interest in them. Does anyone here have one and which one is considered to be the best?

Anybody ever use this? It's a multi-platform open-source 3D graphics rendering engine. It caught my attention because it was used to produce the recently released game Torchlight. I'm running the latest version of Firefox 3 and using some Bose USB speakers. Up until a couple hours ago the sound was working great. Now . . . the speakers(and headphones connected through the speakers) still play almost every sound. It works fine with instant message devices(the notification noises) and with iTunes. I am utilizing my computer for everything (who doesn't these days) , but especially for a lot of graphics and video editing. Now I'm notice my system runs slowly and is crashing alot. I've noticed this in some areas of the board. There will be a line running throught the subject line which desiginates the new thread. For instance "Computer Lab Topics and Guidelines" has a line running right through the middle as if it's "marked out" by somone. I noticed this a lot on the 'Jehovah's witness' forum. Do I just have to bite the bullet and pay more for app upgrades that don't work on the new OS? I can't even get my marine aquarium screen saver to work anymore. Pathfinder says I have to pay another 20 dollars, and I think all my apps that are crashing just don't work with Snow Leopard. Should I just have left well enough alone?

Testing out the newest version of Windows on my workstation here at the office to make sure all our management software is compatible. :teeth: So far, I'm a fan. It's nowhere near as naggy as Vista. So, I've had an iriver e100 mp3 player for 18 months. It was a birthday present, and I love it despite it's horribly clunky interface, but sadly it's dying. Got a question about mixed device speeds on a single FW chain. Here's my setup: MacBook Pro with one FW800 input. Drobo with FW800 Maxtor External HDD with FW400 which I had been connecting to my computer with a "bilingual" cable, now connected into the Drobo. I had heard that on a FW chain, if there are any FW400 devices on a FW800 chain, then the speed of ALL the devices is reduced to FW400. www.pandora.com uses some algorithms to take your inputed artist or song and creat a custom radio station for you to listen to of similar music to your input. I think its a great tool to find new music that matches your tastes. Or to just kick back and listen to some tunes. I created a tangerine dream station to listen to some mellow techno tunes.

So Apple pulled Google voice apps out of the App Store and it denied Google's new native Voice app. I have to say, this is a really low blow. If the reports are true, they denied it at AT&T's request. Which sucks for me because I have an iPod touch and have been eagerly looking forward to a native Google Voice app. (I use Google Voice a lot) This is grossly anti-competitive and I'm really glad I'm not stuck with one of Apple's crappy phones. I'm pretty sure my installation of DirectX 9 has become corrupted. I'm not exactly sure how this occurred, but I need to force a re-install of 9c. So....I'm the new I.T. manager at my new job, (almost 3 mo.'s now). My boss wants me to modify our company Intranet Site. We use it exclusively to catalogue new "samples" that we send to prospective customers. He wants me to add the capability to add pictures to the samples. For my next laptop, I am thinking of getting a Macbook Pro. The deal is, the one I want has to have the dedicated GPU (NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT). Long story short, I'm shopping for a new desktop. Looked at the systems at WalMart and although the EMachines were interesting I decided I might try a Dell. Now can anybody tell me how easily I can have the RAM upgraded on it at a later date? Hi windows installer tries to install photogallery (which I dont have) on startup. It wont do anything until I get task manager and "End task" it. I have tried downloading windows installer, installing it and then uninstallling it (last night) but this didn't help. Need someone with skill in this area to help me please. Okay, maybe a partial membership. I got an iPod Touch. And on my first day I downloaded like 15 or 20 free apps. Mostly games, but a few others, like Facebook and Pandora. Man alive, I love this thing. So my question is, what other free apps does everyone recommend?
