Now, I seriously doubt anyone alive today can compete with Tolkien's mythology, but that's all subjective. I can still enjoy fantasy even if it's not from the Next Tolkien. Just two glaring issues from the most surfacy of readings: 1. Dan doesn't seem to know that a cross and a crucifix are two different things. 2. He also labors under the misconception that the star of David is an ancient Jewish symbol when really it's a modern invention of Israel. Reaaly the whole novel is just so unreslistic and unbelievable that it's just not worth your time.

Good book, though having seen the movie first, I expected a happier ending (as there's alot of differences between the two films based on it and the book), but the concept was interesting. Has anyone else here read it? And if so what did you think of it?

I will proudly say this... I hate, hate, hate, hate, HATE Emily Dickenson's poetry. Seriously, who decided to take the poetry written by a crazy lady who lived all by herself in the woods and who had no intention to publish what she wrote and turn it into normal curriculum for people to study on an academic level? I'm in the process of creating a library of 200 or so books for elementary school children and would like some advice on children's classics that would be worth buying. As you already know, the romance genre is written and read primarily by women. However, the whole feeling of the books seems to be intended to create longing for the figures in the story. They use fantasy as an escape to temporarily fill in or console their need for some sort of real love or affection, which leaves them with a void afterwards. I've been thinking that maybe the reason why me (and by the looks of it, a lot of other people) can never get a lot of writing done is because we have to set up a story, and most of us get bored or discouraged before we get to the meat of that story and just quit. Has anybody tried to just write pieces of the story before they get to that point, and then just put them together and patch up the transitions afterwards?
