I just wanted to say that I was just here at the Seminary and saw Geisler while I was here and we chatted first about the Mormons that had just left my place and then we talked about DJ's book some. I told him how DJ is constantly saying that Geisler recommends his book so I thought I'd get his response.
Geisler's response is that he does recommend it because it shows the way people turn into atheists. It's not for rational reasons. It's for emotional reasons. Just read the first few chapters...

To keep the Screwball thread from being cluttered, I'm starting a new one on this subject.
The same way they might compare themselves in other ways. It's up to you explain why things should be different.
The same thing could be said to dismiss anything Jesus said or did, as stated. You need a better developed reason than that. You also need to show that our "time" is right. Otherwise this is no better than the atheist who says, "Blood atonement is the sort of thing people accepted 2000...

So as I've said to some folks already, a Tekton reader generously donated a new Dell Inspiron to the ministry...meaning I can now retire the older Dimension 2400.
I had a lot of problems getting Windows Vista to play with my older software and hardware, so I waited a few weeks for the Windows 7 upgrade.
Now that it's set up...some random thoughts.
* Golly - this Windows 7 taskbar sure looks like the one along the bottom of a Mac.
* What? No mail program? Get out of here! Oh well -- this...

I trust that this thread will not degenerate into personal insults and ad hominem attacks, as that kind of behavior has no place in discussing a matter as serious as the Atonement.

At this moment I am reviewing some of my old responses to Earl Doherty for the Christ myth book. I remember I wasn't impressed by Earl back then, and I am finding myself even less impressed now.
Frankly, it's becoming clear that Earl has some of retardation when it comes to historical perspective. Let me give two examples here.

For the past few weeks I've been working on this -- the Classics Library is now its own website!
I still have a bit more work to do, but it is mostly done. I won't be running it myself, but it remains a valued and allied site for Tekton.
If you're interested, we're always in need of people to either find and photocopy classic works for us, or find photos or bio details for some of the authors that are lacking.

JP,
Sat down in Sunday School a couple of weeks ago to begin a study on the book of John. I wasn't too excited about the first chapter because I was familar with it and didn't expect to find anything new there. As it turns out, I found an entirely new universe right there in the first verse.
For example, I told the class that I understood the term "Lamb of God" because the OT provided a wonderful backdrop that would load that term with all kinds of context. What I didn't understand is...

Over at the Unbelievable forum, one of DJ's past Useful Idiots, DagoodS, is posting the usual tripe. :lol: I decided that since he's an arrogant ignoramus who poses as an expert, and has already said he's too chicken to come here and debate me, this is a good shot for some public shaming.
Let's do his posting a little at a time. The first half or so has to do with claims of Gary Habermas, which it would be Habermas' place to defend (or that of someone who knows his work). I'll start with one...

I sat down yesterday and began reading your "flawless" paperback book, THE IMPOSSIBLE FAITH. I must say that you certainly did not disappoint me because it was no time at all that i found misinformation and flaws! Today on DC blogs I see John is analysing his JPH-poll breakdown. If I am not mistaken his logic goes so: the only Christians who voted for JP are by definition ignorant Christians since liking jp's writing is evidence (in John's reasoning) that they cannot have read other apologists whom he thinks are better. He then clucks and crows about the % of people who have never heard of JP and I am left wondering why these have not also been written off as ignorant.

This book has been getting a lot of attention of late, and this is a review I will post on Tekton on Friday.
I see it as yet another case of a pedantic (Viola) advocating a band-aid solution in his own best interests. I have nothing against house churches per se, but they are far from being an answer to the problems of the American church.

This thread is all about the new book on the Christ myth that Tekton will be publishing in May/June as part of the new Building Blocks teaching series. I'm working on the final editing now and plan to submit the mss. to Xulon for a self-pub job no later than May 15.
This project will be a bit unusual in that I have a team of contributors adding in their own chapters. A couple of them are right here on TWeb! :thumb:

The next time any of you folks see us in person, there'll be a bit of a change....we won't be driving our 2004 Saturn Ion any more; we'll be driving a Toyota Prius.

Christopher Hitchens is coming to speak at my university. I emailed the Issues Committee about it, and they told me he would be speaking on his book, God is not Great, and that there will be a question and answer session. I have just lately finished a book by Douglas Wilson titled The Serrated Edge which makes a Biblical case for satire -- using the very same arguments and Biblical passages I always have.
He also answers some of the same arguments the whiners have always used, notably, the "you're not Jesus" canard.
Wilson had an especially poignant answer to that which didn't occur to me:
Some might say (and do say) that we are not Jessu, and so we do not have the wisdom to insult properly. Fine. So why then...

This morning I added a new project to the Tekton 2009 Manifesto. I'm going to be investigating the idea of producing materials for evangelism training and for personal evangelism. I'll also add a component on this to Tekton Apologetics U. (TAU) at some point.
Why? After something at my church last night, I just can't stand it any more. The current state of evangelistic methods is just plain appalling. Yes, we've already had our say here over Way of Disaster's "bypass the intellect" method. But...

I wanted to start a special thread on Stephan Huller, author of The Real Messiah. I am shortly completing my review of it for the E-Block, and this guy is in many ways dishonest and despicable. His thesis is that Mark was actually Marcus Agrippa, and he was enthroned Messiah as a child in Alexandria, Egypt in 37-8 AD (which is also about when Jesus was actually crucified....in Samaria). His centerpiece is a "Throne of St. Mark" -- an alabaster reliquary.

We should not let later Judeo-Christian notions of "morality", not a tendency to idealize David, lead us to overlook the perhaps startling fact that he was a homosexual.

Over on Amazon, under the TIF review by DJ, a whiny little Lazy Agnostic clone named "Jeff Leroy" is having a snit fit over one of my former arguments re: the directive to be likes "doves" in the NT. I used to say that doves were regarded as vicious fighters, so that any use of this image to promote ideas of "peace" is wrong.

I was asked to start something here on this -- I have no comment at present, since just about anything I can think of that "taking God's name in vain" might have been would be wrong to do anyway; if you held a gun to my head I'd go for the idea that it was using God's name or identity in a trivial or unholy way. As expected, I had a rocket attached to my back at jury duty.
Curtmudgeon said I’d be out of jury duty just like that, and he was right. In the end it was my background in corrections that did it. The day wasn’t a total loss – I kept up with stuff here and with email all morning at the courthouse cybercafé. I also get the chance to write this rant now.

Hi everyone! I thought I'd introduce myself -- I'm JP's new mascot, muse, and special little buddy. My foster mom at the rescue organization called me Kahlua, but when we're adopted we get new names, and JP has decided to name me Cocoa! I'm not living in the Holding house yet -- that will happen Feb. 1 when he takes me home. But he'll be visiting me at my foster mom's house and buying me all kinds of toys and food to make me feel at home!
As it turns out, I'm a LOT like JP's last buddy Toby....
