since there was such a good response from the first poll, on to the second item on the docket. when you visit theologyweb how often would you say you spend outside of the forums such as the blogs, yearbook, arcade, chatroom? on a scale of 1-5 for consistency sake (1 being never to 5 being every visit). and if you do spend time on the extras on the site please post where it is you spend your time, ie. blogs, yearbook, arcade. and if you have any suggestions on how to make them more fun or... Do Talking Snakes Exist?
by Rusty Entrekin
In this brief excerpt from the mockumentary Religulous, read how Bill Maher slyly entrapped unsuspecting Arkansas Senator Sen. Mark Pryor. My comments are interjected in blue.
Maher began with the question, "Do you believe in evolution?"
Senator Pryor answered, "You know, of course, I don't know. Clearly the scientific community is a little divided on some of the specifics of that, and I understand that -"
Maher (interrupting): "I don't think they are."
Senator Pryor: "No, I uh, well-"
Maher (again interrupting): " I think they pretty much agree."
The truth is that Senator Pryor was right. While most scientists think that particle to species evolution (macroevolution) has happened, a significant minority do not, and among those who believe in it, there is still much conjecture and disagreement regarding the specifics of how it could have happened. Comparing DNA sequences has only deepened the disagreement, since most of the sequence comparisons do not match Darwin's concept of the tree of life. This was Darwin's idea that all life is descended from a common single-celled ancestor.
Senator Pryor: "I don't know how it all happened. I mean, I'm certainly willing to accept -"
We weren't there when it happened. So how could we really know how it all happened... unless we had a truthful and trustworthy eyewitness account to rely on? Wait a second! Isn't that what Christians and Jews believe God has provided for us in the Genesis creation account? In his next comment, however, Maher makes it quite plain that he doesn't think that account can be relied upon.
Maher (interrupting once again): "It couldn't possibly have been Adam and Eve 5000 years ago with a talking snake in a garden, could it?"
Within this simple question, there is a lot of communication and implication going on. Maher could have been more direct and asked something like, "You don't actually believe Jesus rose from the dead, do you?" but expressing disbelief in a talking snake is a much less sacred target, and less likely to offend. The intended effect of the question is the same, however, and that is to engender doubt.[Read More]

TheologicalDisc presented a miracle on camera on another thread:
Just to be clear, he is not saying it actually is a miracle, just that it is an example of a miracle caught on camera.
So what do people think? Is this a miracle? If you think it is, how would you know it was sent by God, and not Satan?

This is an old topic, but I have not seen any really new topics, but reading the Victor Stenger thread got me going on it again. According to my understanding of the Bible there can not be former Christians. Those who make such a claim are fooling themselves.

Hi all,
You may or may not remember me. I was active in this forum last summer. Then I became very busy with my uni work and now I'm in my final year. I have been assigned a project looking at the antimicrobial properties of plants and I've been breaking my head over this. I'm trying to find the most obscure plants to test for i.e no published work (in the scientific literature) on these plants and I'm failing miserably on this. Its shocking (for a newbie like me) how much is published and...

Seriously though folks, this is an interesting piece of research .
Mr Fernandez has been busy undertaking research on mysteries regarding the complexity of the human genome. He and his fellow researchers think they have uncovered a mechanism explaining this complexity, in part at least. It has to do with the consequences of gene and genome duplication, and what the genetic system does in order to cope with this occurrence.
Here are the details in layman’s terms:

Coming at you from the not-so-sunny mountains of Manchester, Tennessee.
On my way here I saw the following advertisement:
VISIT RACCOON MOUNTAIN & CAVERNS, ESTABLISHED 500,000 BC
I kept wondering where the '500,000 BC' label was printed.
I also wondered if, besides that date, the label also showed
Made in Taiwan or China or Mexico or Korea or Japan.
Those kinds of questions stay with me for a long time. :hehe:
Anyway, that's another subject.

I Sa 17:39 and the verses back has Saul and David speaking before the battle, but 17:55-58 has Saul not knowing David and wondering whose son he is. Can't have it both ways!
SO whats the answer?>
I should call myself CONTRADICTION MAN, NOT BULLDOG! lol

Hello,
On another thread I started here, starting on page three or four, Max Vel devoted numerous, extensive posts to interrogating me and attacking what he percieved to be or misinterpreted to be my moral views or values. Yesterday several other Christians joined in the fun. I have tried to answer their questions as best I can, and have repeated myself numerous times for the benefit of Max Vel, who asks me essentially the same question over and over again. I wouldn't really call this much of...

The atheists problems with necessity and contingency are just ludicrous. To me equating God's necessity with an unproved idea, or demanding prof that the universe is continent it just idiotic. totally idiotic. it's like saying "prove that tables are things to put things on."
they also confuse a prori with circular reasoning.
when they go "you are defining God into existence" then are just confusing the understanding of a prori reasoning with circular reasoning.
That would be making the...

Has anybody played this yet?
I have. It's pretty good. I loved the new addition to armored SWAT team zombies and mini-boss zombies. The roving Witch is a nice touch, even if it does make my nerves fry. I also loved my character of choice, Ellis. He seems to be an "everyday man" who can make you laugh just by listening to his accent.
But I didn't like the new music that plays when a horde comes. Fiddle music? Really? Also, the new melee weapons seem to just be a gimmick, although...
