since there was such a good response from the first poll, on to the second item on the docket. when you visit theologyweb how often would you say you spend outside of the forums such as the blogs, yearbook, arcade, chatroom? on a scale of 1-5 for consistency sake (1 being never to 5 being every visit). and if you do spend time on the extras on the site please post where it is you spend your time, ie. blogs, yearbook, arcade. and if you have any suggestions on how to make them more fun or... Do Talking Snakes Exist?
by Rusty Entrekin
In this brief excerpt from the mockumentary Religulous, read how Bill Maher slyly entrapped unsuspecting Arkansas Senator Sen. Mark Pryor. My comments are interjected in blue.
Maher began with the question, "Do you believe in evolution?"
Senator Pryor answered, "You know, of course, I don't know. Clearly the scientific community is a little divided on some of the specifics of that, and I understand that -"
Maher (interrupting): "I don't think they are."
Senator Pryor: "No, I uh, well-"
Maher (again interrupting): " I think they pretty much agree."
The truth is that Senator Pryor was right. While most scientists think that particle to species evolution (macroevolution) has happened, a significant minority do not, and among those who believe in it, there is still much conjecture and disagreement regarding the specifics of how it could have happened. Comparing DNA sequences has only deepened the disagreement, since most of the sequence comparisons do not match Darwin's concept of the tree of life. This was Darwin's idea that all life is descended from a common single-celled ancestor.
Senator Pryor: "I don't know how it all happened. I mean, I'm certainly willing to accept -"
We weren't there when it happened. So how could we really know how it all happened... unless we had a truthful and trustworthy eyewitness account to rely on? Wait a second! Isn't that what Christians and Jews believe God has provided for us in the Genesis creation account? In his next comment, however, Maher makes it quite plain that he doesn't think that account can be relied upon.
Maher (interrupting once again): "It couldn't possibly have been Adam and Eve 5000 years ago with a talking snake in a garden, could it?"
Within this simple question, there is a lot of communication and implication going on. Maher could have been more direct and asked something like, "You don't actually believe Jesus rose from the dead, do you?" but expressing disbelief in a talking snake is a much less sacred target, and less likely to offend. The intended effect of the question is the same, however, and that is to engender doubt.[Read More]

Andius really kicked Yankee Doodle's tail for his silly imperialist prejudices. He really knows his history and it shows excellently in this post.

This is kinda how I feel.
A man's relationship (or not) between him and God is just that. Between him and God. He answers to God for that, not to his fellow human beings.
I'm thankful to be a Christian and thankful that it does not make me of the same ilk as Fred Phelps.
I know a few Muslims that are thinking along the same lines regarding Major Hasan.
Good one, Lizard.

While I loved what Cruiser posted, I had to go with Rogue after I saw his reply.

Below are listed the number of twebbers as recorded in the thread Countup to 10,000.
Times are as seen by me; that is, they are according to Central European Time (GMT+1).
As you can see, the number of twebbers increases during a day, suddenly do drop by around 100 as the clock moves from PM to AM.
I have noticed this pattern for a long time and wondered why. I suppose the server is in the US, so I could understand, if the drop was at midnight in some US timezone -- due to database...

I have a question for the Mormons of TWeb.
Three months ago I moved to an area with a very high percentage of Mormons. Even my roommates are Mormon.
One thing I have noticed, both with my roommates and coworkers, is that they all drink sodas and coffee. None of them seem to be concerned with caffeine content. In fact, on several occasions we have discussed the relative effectiveness of various energy drinks. The Word of Wisdom says no tea or coffee is to be consumed, the assumption being that...

Jeff said in another thread that he felt the Holy Spirit so I would like to know how mormons know that their "Feeling" is really the Holy Spirit? Could you please explain what this "Feeling" feels like?

In another thread, Sparko posted the following. As not to derail that thread, I am starting a new one in order to discuss this issue.
The contention is that Paul believed in the resurrection of the physical body, also known as necromancy... kidding...
My contention is that, on the contrary, Paul clearly states that the body that dies is not the body that is raised.
In response to the above, my first comment would be that Sparko is usng an anachronistic understanding of a spiritual body....

Throughout this thread, entries in the 4th section (Analysis) will consist of excerpts from A Grammatical Analysis of the Greek New Testament, by Max Zerwick and Mary Grosvenor (Rome: Biblical Institute Press, 1981).
Occasionally, the Analysis may include, in brackets, an entry headed BG: all such entries will consist of quotations from Biblical Greek: Illustrated by Examples, by Maximilian Zerwick S.J., English edition adapted from the fourth Latin edition by Joseph Smith S.J. (Scripta...

Interesting story date, considering that I turn 30 today. I wonder if i'll live to see 40. :ponder:
Yet another perfect example of why making loans "affordable" for low income persons is a really, really bad idea. But no doubt this crisis will be white washed, like the last one, and we will keep making the same mistake and keep getting kicked in the proverbial balls, until there is no more money left to repair the Treasury...

Modified from my blog http://themigrantmind.blogspot.com/2009/04/holocene-denial-syndrome.html
First came the holocaust--a horrible mass-murder, a genocide, in that day condemned by one
and all. Then came the holocaust deniers, people who were rightly condemned for denying
the obvious killing of 6 million people. Then came the idea of global warming; and in the rush
to shut up anyone who doubted what the global warming community, with its political allies,
said, the term 'global warming...

So as I've said to some folks already, a Tekton reader generously donated a new Dell Inspiron to the ministry...meaning I can now retire the older Dimension 2400.
I had a lot of problems getting Windows Vista to play with my older software and hardware, so I waited a few weeks for the Windows 7 upgrade.
Now that it's set up...some random thoughts.
* Golly - this Windows 7 taskbar sure looks like the one along the bottom of a Mac.
* What? No mail program? Get out of here! Oh well -- this...
