Do Talking Snakes Exist?
by Rusty Entrekin
In this brief excerpt from the mockumentary Religulous, read how Bill Maher slyly entrapped unsuspecting Arkansas Senator Sen. Mark Pryor. My comments are interjected in blue.
Maher began with the question, "Do you believe in evolution?"
Senator Pryor answered, "You know, of course, I don't know. Clearly the scientific community is a little divided on some of the specifics of that, and I understand that -"
Maher (interrupting): "I don't think they are."
Senator Pryor: "No, I uh, well-"
Maher (again interrupting): " I think they pretty much agree."
The truth is that Senator Pryor was right. While most scientists think that particle to species evolution (macroevolution) has happened, a significant minority do not, and among those who believe in it, there is still much conjecture and disagreement regarding the specifics of how it could have happened. Comparing DNA sequences has only deepened the disagreement, since most of the sequence comparisons do not match Darwin's concept of the tree of life. This was Darwin's idea that all life is descended from a common single-celled ancestor.
Senator Pryor: "I don't know how it all happened. I mean, I'm certainly willing to accept -"
We weren't there when it happened. So how could we really know how it all happened... unless we had a truthful and trustworthy eyewitness account to rely on? Wait a second! Isn't that what Christians and Jews believe God has provided for us in the Genesis creation account? In his next comment, however, Maher makes it quite plain that he doesn't think that account can be relied upon.
Maher (interrupting once again): "It couldn't possibly have been Adam and Eve 5000 years ago with a talking snake in a garden, could it?"
Within this simple question, there is a lot of communication and implication going on. Maher could have been more direct and asked something like, "You don't actually believe Jesus rose from the dead, do you?" but expressing disbelief in a talking snake is a much less sacred target, and less likely to offend. The intended effect of the question is the same, however, and that is to engender doubt.[Read More]

Andius really kicked Yankee Doodle's tail for his silly imperialist prejudices. He really knows his history and it shows excellently in this post.

This is kinda how I feel.
A man's relationship (or not) between him and God is just that. Between him and God. He answers to God for that, not to his fellow human beings.
I'm thankful to be a Christian and thankful that it does not make me of the same ilk as Fred Phelps.
I know a few Muslims that are thinking along the same lines regarding Major Hasan.
Good one, Lizard.

There was no intelligible order prevailing in things when according to the theorists of evolution variety of life species came about.
Briefly described, the theory of evolution claims that there was a first species even a first one unit of life form, from which all species and every individual living things owe their beginning.
This assumption is already problematic, but let it pass; while the proponents of evolution will insist that there is a lot of misconception and misinformation and...

I mean if the lds believe that non-lds that claim to believe in Christ are still Christians how could there have been a "Great apostacy"? And since Christians(In every age) are the Church how is it that lds say that Christ has "Restored" the Church in these last days? If you believe that non-lds believers in Christ are Christians why do you guys try to convert us?

Below are listed the number of twebbers as recorded in the thread Countup to 10,000.
Times are as seen by me; that is, they are according to Central European Time (GMT+1).
As you can see, the number of twebbers increases during a day, suddenly do drop by around 100 as the clock moves from PM to AM.
I have noticed this pattern for a long time and wondered why. I suppose the server is in the US, so I could understand, if the drop was at midnight in some US timezone -- due to database...

It has occurred to me that Jesus said that it isn't the one who says "Lord, Lord" to Him that enters the Kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of His Father who abides forever. Jesus speaks of those that He never knew as workers of iniquity and frequently calls the Pharisees hypocrites - and those were the ones for whom He reserved the harshest words. In Matthew 24:51, it says that there is a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth where the hypocrites dwell. So it is safe to say that...

Yes, global warming is still hard at work for you ladies and gentlemen. October was the 3rd coldest October ever. Yes, the 2nd coldest was 1977 and the coldest was 1925. The temperature was FOUR degrees F below the 20th century average. That is a HUGE amount of cooling. Yet anthropogenic global warming advocates will, of course, ignore this fact. They will also ignore the 3000 record low temperatures in July this year and the cool August as well.

I've been listening to a lot of end-times podcasts (DDW's in particular) and reading stuff online.
I find myself still hard to understand dispensational futurism.
In this case, I am not sure what the dispensational futurist hermanutic is. What is the actual interpretative method?
How does dispensationalism decide issue of genre for instance? Some of my non-dispie peers talked about determining the Genre of Ezekiel, Daniel and Revelations in a certain way: what other kind of similar...

Crusade, the devil paraded Christianity following Islam to the hilt.
The Christian leadership in Europe left Christian principles for imitating Islam to counter them. In the process they made them unconvertible.
They declared that indulgenced warriors will get heaven as their sins are gone, and gain loot too. their body and property will be sacrosanct. These echo the similar declaration of Koran.
Problem is that it is very hard for heaven rejecter humanity to follow Christian principles. Even...

Vows are futile. So Christ prohibited them.
There were two constantly fighting families in a village disrupting the peace. So a good man vowed to God to stop that. At the next fight he intervened with some people. But their attack on them broke their patience and the fight spread.
Disgusted the man knew that only by love he can reconcile them. Advising them to love each other drew blank. He knew that he must teach them love by exercising it himself. But when he tried to love them he found that...
