  • Jesus Freak Music

Get your freak on! This thread is for those who enjoy Jesus Freak Music. Born and raised in a Jesus freak cult wasn't all bad. I gained a deep appreciation for Jesus Freak music that has endured with me to this very day. There are so many bands in this genre that were never really appreciated for what they were, and unlike a lot of modern day CCM, really did represent some of the best music out there in the period. Some of my favorite bands/artists include "Phil Keaggy", "Pressed Down, Shaken Together & Running Over", "Selah", and perhaps my favorite, "All Saved Freak Band". Admittedly, this isn't a genre I've explored thoroughly (nor throughly), there's just too much out there, but I feel I got a handle on some of the most radical. What are some of your favorites?

Here's a classic from Pressed Down that I put up on Youtube myself to get us started. If you dig Crosby, Stills and Nash (and Young), I think you'll dig this band:

    Lyrics:

All the little children of today face tomorrow
on the wings of dreams and the coat-tails of our lives.
    All their questions deserve answers
    Little cowboys, little dancers
Need the light of understanding in their eyes.

Now's the time we must get honest.
    The hour is upon us
We've got to show the little ones the way of life.
They are willing with hearts burning
and they'll have no problem learning
if we take the time to teach the words of life.

Their hearts are open and their thoughts are new
    Trusting every word we say
Their eyes will follow everything we do
Let our example light the way
    Lead the way.

All the little children need God's love
They need the words to rise above
We've got to teach them not to fear
    And in the coming years
They'll turn around and teach their children to love.

    Innocent believing
    pure life they'll be receiving
their precious little hearts are in our hands.
And we if we teach them from the Bible
They'll be sure to live a life full
of the promises of love from God to man.

Their hearts are open and their thoughts are new
    Trusting every word we say
Their eyes will follow everything we do
Let our example light the way
    Lead the way.

All the little children need God's love
They need the Word to rise above
we've got to teach them not to fear
    And in the coming years
Turn around and teach their children to love.

All the little children need God's love
They need the Word to rise above
We've got to teach them not to fear
    and in the coming years
they'll turn around and teach their children

All the little children need God's love...

Sweet. Was Toby Mac in DC Talk? I guess I consider "Jesus Freak" music to be mostly a 60s- 70s phenomenon, but I do really like DC Talk's Supernatural album which I find was highly influenced by the Beatles more experimental period (or maybe that's just my imagination).

This was done in 2004, but I like it a lot better than the usual lyrics I hear for the song.

Yes. DC Talk was Toby Mac, Kevin Max and Michael Tait (who now fronts The Newsboys)

Ask the guy who added the pictures. It fits, sorta.

I much preferred their work together to their solo projects. Unfortunately, the only time I saw them live was when they were launching their solo projects, and most of the time was allotted to their solo stuff.

It just looked weird given the title.

I do like most of TobyMac's solo stuff
Michael Tait.... Well I've been a Newsboys fan since they began, and I think he's been a good fit there.
Kevin Max does better in a group. His album with Audio Adrenaline was good, his solo stuff not so much.

For a brief period of time in the late 60's I was part of a Jesus Freak group. They did their music with guitars and tambourines, and I actually enjoyed some of it.

This is one I remember - though I don't remember it sounding quite like this.

The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.
