  • What is heaven like?

I honestly am pretty curious. It is hard to imagine not looking at things from a human perspective.

Jesus is there, and sin is not. I'm sold on that alone.

I have a feeling that, no matter how we imagine heaven, we'll spend the first million years or so just looking around saying "wow"....

Well scripture seems to indicate that there will be a new heaven and a new earth, and the two will (as NT Wright puts it) "overlap and interlock". We'll be judging the earth with Christ in his kingdom as his new divine council (see NT Wright, and Michael Heiser for more on this).

I get the feeling that there will be a lot of celebration, and worship, but also a lot of work in heaven. Only this will be work that we infinitely enjoy doing.

Heaven is like Earth. Earth as it should have been. When we are resurrected, we will live on the new Earth, a paradise that Eden was meant to be but never had a chance to accomplish.

And we'll be surprised, I think, over who is there, and who is NOT there.
