    Rand Paul said it best.
HOW IS IT YOU NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT THE ALIENS, HARRY??!!

The Defense Department has never before acknowledged the existence of the program, which it says it shut down in 2012. But its backers say that, while the Pentagon ended funding for the effort at that time, the program remains in existence.

Harry Reid. Mysterious billionaires. Area 51. Roswell envy.

    This story has it all.

    Even Hillary's hit squad.

Since the black budget money dried up in 2012, Mr. Elizondo's (remember that name) Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program has been funded by the billionaire who'd been running the contracts. The annual appropriation he picked up was around $20 million.
Mr. Elizondo ... continued to work out of his Pentagon office until this past October, when he resigned to protest what he characterized as excessive secrecy and internal opposition.

The Pentagon's loss, the History Channel's gain.

So instead of a wall to keep aliens out, we need to build a gigantic dome over the entire country?

The wall just got 100 miles higher.

        _____

But here's the real story; it's less amusing.

Three senators got together in a back room and cobbled together a program known only to them, financed entirely off the books, and got it running.

In considering these reports, my mind turned to all those reasonable people who were dismissed and ridiculed over the years because they believed that something was out there. I thought in particular of believers who had died without savoring these official revelations.

            Believers like my late father.

            ^ otherwise reasonable ...

UFOs regularly spotted in restricted U.S. airspace, report on the phenomena due next month
              .
We have tackled many strange stories on 60 Minutes, but perhaps none like this. It's the story of the U.S. government's grudging acknowledgment of unidentified aerial phenomena— UAP—more commonly known as UFOs. After decades of public denial the Pentagon now admits there's something out there, and the U.S. Senate wants to know what it is. The intelligence committee has ordered the director of national intelligence and the secretary of defense to deliver a report on the mysterious sightings by next month.

Bill Whitaker: So what you are telling me is that UFOs, unidentified flying objects, are real?

Luis Elizondo: Bill, I think we're beyond that already. The government has already stated for the record that they're real. I'm not telling you that. The United States government is telling you that.

Luis Elizondo spent 20 years running military intelligence operations worldwide: in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Guantanamo. He hadn't given UFOs a second thought until 2008. That's when he was asked to join something at the Pentagon called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, or "AATIP."

I, for one, welcome our new ocean-roiling, flying tic-tac overlords.

I've been made fun of in the past for mentioning I saw one near a military base down in Florida. At first I just thought it was a weird plane, but then it suddenly moved the opposite direction it had been going at extreme speed. I mean like instantaneously going the opposite direction. Then it that again and got its original speed and direction, and pretty close to the spot it would have been if it hadn't been moving around like the ball in a game of high speed Pong.

US government finally discloses to the nation the existence of UFOs, something UFO buffs have been anticipating for decades, and it's barely a blip on anyone's radar. Just goes to show you how distracted we are and how crazy everything has gotten recently.

People see what they see, often enough not what's actually there. Out hiking in the Arizona desert, I once saw a truck driving straight at me. I was hiking. No roads. Mirage. And then there's the seminal incidents, like Kenneth Arnold's original "flying saucers" sighting, a perfect description of a flight of birds that occurred while he was focused of finding a downed plane. So he saw them as planes, with scaled up speed.

I don't know what you saw, and there's no real way to check.

These more recent sightings include high-quality recordings on military equipment. We can watch them.

Even so I think mocking me for mentioning I saw something unusual, without saying I thought it was aliens*, was kind of ridiculous to be mocked over. Especially now that we have the government admitting to UFO's being real.

*I was very explicit in saying I had no idea what it was. I'm pretty certain it wasn't an illusion or mirage. If it weren't for the unusual movement I would have just thought it was another plane, albeit with different lights than I'm used to, landing at the nearby military base.

Back in my police days, I did a lot of midnight-to-eight tours. After the bars closed at 2 AM, it would get really quiet from about 3:30 AM to sunup.

It was not terribly unusual to see weird stuff in the sky. We (officers) kinda developed this thing where, if we saw what might be a UFO or other weirdness, we'd call on the radio (very calmly) something like 'angels 8 o'clock', which means I'm seeing something in the sky SW sky. Usually, nobody would respond because they didn't see it, but if they did, they'd say something like "moving E high rate of speed".

There were a couple of "repeat offenders" that we would refer to as, for example, the twisted sisters - two balls of light that seemed to criss-cross each other as they moved across the sky.

(sometimes, somebody with a spotter's scope or something would respond "aircraft navigation lights on that 8 o'clock", and we'd know it was an airplane or helicopter)
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.
