  • Dem's New Slogan....

    "For the People"

    Cute

The DNC limps towards a laughable midterms slogan

Yes, that’s right. After the burning of much midnight non-fossil fuel, the DNC has hit upon a sure winner. The considered and rejected “Better Deal.” That one, Politico reports, “failed to break through with voters” and besides, it has has been “openly mocked by some Democratic lawmakers.”

They know in their heart of hearts that what they have on offer—higher taxes, lax border enforcement, more business-killing regulation, and more governmental bureaucracy—they know that they cannot, practiced liars though they be, tout that with as straight face as a “better deal.”

So what’s the alternative? Wait for it. Drum roll please! It’s “For the People.”

Yep, the party that has spent a decade and more coddling Washington elites and ignoring the heartland as a bastion of “irredeemable deplorables,” the party that has destroyed black inner cities across the country by a making their inhabitants wards of the state: here they are with “for the people.” “House Democrats,” Politico says, “plan to begin working ‘For the People’ into their statements and press conferences.”

    Please stop giggling.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

"For The People" reminds me of the Margaret Thatcher quote, "Socialists cry, 'Power to the people!" and raise a clinched fist as they say it, but we know what they really mean: power over people; power to the state."

Around here there is a group of ambulance chasers (personal injury lawyers) who have been using that motto for years (it is hard to avoid their commercials during afternoon TV). It's even part of their web address (https://www.forthepeople.com/). I wonder if they can sue them for infringement since suing is pretty much all they do.

ETA: Apparently they're in several states

Slogans aside it seems obvious that the Dems should position themselves on the side of the people over and against the Swamp of Republicans/Trump etc. An anti-corruption message should have traction with the voters.
"I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump
"Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism" - George Orwell
"[Capitalism] as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of evils. I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy" - Albert Einstein

Can't you come up with a better Democrat strategy than trying to hypocritically co-opt Trump's winning platform?

On a related note, a recent Wall Street Journal/NBC poll showed that Trump's approval rating continues to tick upwards despite Democrats hilariously wringing their hands and yelling, "Russia! Russia! Russia!"

They need to qualify it as "For the people... on the two coasts who live in bubbles and cried when Hillary lost" because "the people" in the rest of the country saw through their lies the last time.

They could start by actually being "for the people" instead of the extreme left fringe.

It seems that most of the Democrats that have been elected to office since 2016 have done so by rarely mentioning their part affiliation and running as pseudo-conservatives.

Magnify the slogan and if you look really, really closely you see in fine print the words "in office" after "For the People".

"For the People" is painfully generic. Whatever one may have thought of the policies underlining them, "Yes, We Can!" and "Make America Great Again" were catchy slogans that stuck in your head. And while "Yes, We Can" was a bit generic, it still had at least some level of specificity, whereas "For the People" doesn't. Granted, I'm not sure how much slogans matter--did anyone actually change their votes based on them?--but "For the People" is just weak.

Something like "Building Bridges, Not Walls" (a proposed slogan for the Libertarian Party 2018 Convention, though they went with something else) would've been a lot better.

Hopefully this slogan, as bland as it may be, signals a shift among Democratic leaders to lean more into liberal policies rather than the neoliberalism that cost them the election. I can't help but suspect their appeal to liberals is only lip service, but time will tell.

Expound on that, please - cause it sounds like the party is having a hard time deciding whether they're going full-out socialist, or....

There is beginning to be some push back against Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other Democrats like her from what would be considered the establishment wing of the party. In some ways it's like what happened on the right regarding the Tea Party and traditional Republicans. Of course a case could be made that in this instance the differences are primarily whether they should be open about their beliefs or keep them under wraps.
