  • US policy that ignores the slaughter of Christians and others in the SUDAN

Since mossy doesn't want the abuse of Christians discussed in her thread if it's caused by the policies of the current administration:

Information on the current push to normalize relations with Sudan

    https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2019...on-talks-intl/

Background on the fact the Sudan has one of the worst persecution records against Christians. An Islamic government that brutalizes the Christians that live there.

    https://www.opendoorsusa.org/christi...ch-list/sudan/

Can you support Trump's desire to normalize relations with a nation that has one of the worst records of violence against Christians?

My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. James 2:1

If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not  bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless James 1:26

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; James 1:19

From a strategic standpoint, normalizing relations with the Sudan makes sense. From a human rights perspective, you'll never get them to improve while isolating them.

I disagree. Out of curiosity, what do you suppose would motivate them to change if we eliminate the carrot of normalized relations by ignoring this issue? Would they not see that as removing the need to adjust that part of who they are in order to gain the advantages normalized relations would bring?

And assuming nothing we do would help, why does that mean it is then ok to then give them the benefits of normalized relations? Do we not have a moral obligation to push back against this sort of human rights violation?

Is there actually a serious Sudanese government with whom to negotiate?

It is easier to keep an eye on the country from an embassy. Normalized relations make embassies easier to keep.

? Why would the Trump administration want to normalize relations with a non-existent entity ?

Having done a TDY to Riyadh just after Kobar Towers, I can tell you that most of the rank and file Saudis I interacted with welcome our presence. It's the royal family that doesn't like our big brother monitoring. But normalized relationships are the best way to be able to see on the ground what is actually going on in a country. Why do you think it is so difficult for us to know what is actually going on in North Korea? No embassy.

Absolutely not. This is just another reason to wonder why some Christians think they can support Trump.

And it’s an embarrassment to evangelical Christianity that there appear to be so many who will celebrate precisely the aspects that I see Biblically as most lamentable and embarrassing."
