  • Trump, the above the law wannabe dictator.

Trump signs bipartisan stimulus bill, but says he won't comply with the stipulations therein.

    http://publicnewsupdate.com/news/tru...stimulus-bill/

The very part of the bill that democrats held it up for, in order to insure oversight of the monies (500 billion) going to large corporations, Trump, after signing it, says he will refuse to abide by.

That wasn't what they held Americans hostage for. If that was their chief concern then why weren't they bringing it up when the various committee leaders from both parties wrote the initial draft? The one Schumer praised for its bipartisanship before Pelosi flew in from San Francisco and told him pack it with pork and items that had absolutely nothing to do with fighting the Chicom coronavirus or stimulating the economy.

It's pretty disturbing that today Trump's saying he won't follow a law he signed yesterday.

Maybe he shouldn't have signed it if he didn't want to follow it.

Also unsurprising that it's the transparency provisions he doesn't want to follow. I guess when he orders Mnuchin to pay the slush fund out to Trump's own businesses and donors, he doesn't want anyone to be able to find out that that happened.

Fake news. Trump never said he wasn't going to follow the law. He is going to follow it, and he recognizes that per the powers granted him in the Constitution, it is his duty to provide oversight, and as such, the inspector general will report to him before reporting to Congress. The Democrats apparently think they can pass a law that usurps the President's Constitutional authority, but they can't. This is nothing more than the system working as intended.

You're such a Trump bootlicker, MM.

The congressional bill, i.e. the law, passed by Congress, authorizes the newly congressionally appointed Inspector to request information from other government agencies and requires him to report to Congress, without delay any refusal of such a request that in his judgement is unreasonable. That is the law that the President is sworn to uphold, execute, not a law which he gets to meddle with according to his own discretion.

Lke I said, the Democrats think they can usurp our President's Constitutional authority with a bill, but they're wrong. If the Democrats don't like it then they can try to change the Constitution, but until then, the President is well within his authority to oversee the execution of the law. And notice, too, that the President never said he wouldn't allow the inspector general to fully report to Congress. The IG just has to give the President a heads up first. Good call. It eliminates the President having to depend on what Congress is willing to share, and let's be honest, our Chief Executive has no reason to trust the House.

As has been pointed out, laws passed by Congress do not er, trump the constitution. When they try to do that they get struck down by the courts as unconstitutional. It is the Executive branch that provides the oversight as per the constitution. Congress can hold their feet to the fire. They can investigate any improprieties that may arise. But they cannot usurp the authority.

You mean Mr. I-have-a-pen-and-a-phone? I don't recall anyone constantly calling him a dictator like the nutjobs here chant about Trump but rather (correctly) pointing out that many of his actions were illegal and the courts agreed by striking them down.

Are you seriously suggesting that if the Inspector general finds corruption in the Administrations handling of the stimulus package, which is his job, that Trump can legally prevent him from disclosing that info to Congress. starlight has it right, you, and MM, are simply team players, unprincipled excuse makers, or in other words, Trumpsters.

And at least in one instance even said that he did not have the authority to do something then went ahead and did it anyways.

No little jimmy. He has to report to the Executive branch (DoJ IIRC) not report to Congress and let Congress tell them what was found. Reporting first to the Executive branch would not stop him from informing Congress -- especially if his report is misrepresented.

Considering Schiff's bizarre fantasy world characterization of the call between Trump and Zelensky one cannot blame Trump for sticking to his guns on this.
