  • Broken Toe?

The middle toes on my left foot have been numb for several weeks. That's improving but now I notice some minor pain and soreness in the middle toe. I am wondering if it is broken. How would I know?

not without an x-ray, although I had a toe I knew was broken, but just cause I'd broken enough bones to know. you don't want to go there.

Hmmm, I doubt it is worth the trip. If I don't regain the flexibility in the ankle soon I may go back and mention it then.

Speaking from experience there usually isn't a whole lot you can do about a broken toe.

Yeah. I've broken 2 of them over my life. There is horrible bruising, at least in my experience, and both of mine were done by walking into (1) an open door and (2) my iPad that was charging on the floor of my bedroom overnight.

Didn't even go to the doctor for either of them.

Unless you bashed it on something, I don't know how easily it would be to break one.......

I dunno. It was never bruised that I saw - just numb for more than six weeks.

Did you whack it on anything? Can you bend it? Could you bend it while it was numb?

                1) Not that I recall, but stubbing a toe isn't exactly that memorable.

                2) Yes, but it hurts.

                3) Wasn't really trying but yes, I'm pretty sure I could.

It could be broken. But if you did it 6 weeks ago then it is likely almost healed by now. Even if you've just sprained a toe at the joint it could take ages to heal. And if you have any propensity to arthritis then an injury can trigger it in a joint and make it hurt long after it is healed from the injury.

On closer examination, there is a bump and some minor discoloration around the toe and its nearest cousin. In shoes, it feels like there's a knot underneath the toe in question.

The pain is more like an injury than arthritis... But thanks ever much - now I have toe arthritis to look forward to...
