  • Mike Pence on how presidents should behave

"Leaders affect the lives of families far beyond their own 'private life'. In the Bible story of Esther we are told of a king who was charged to put right his own household because there would be 'no end of disrespect and discord' among the families of the kingdom if he failed to do so. In a day when reckless extramarital sexual activity is manifesting itself in our staggering rates of illegitimacy and divorce, now more than ever, America needs to be able to look to her First Family as role models of all that we have been and can be again." Mike Pence

As you may have guessed this was written before Trump became the president.

"Yes. President Trump is a huge embarrassment. And it’s an embarrassment to evangelical Christianity that there appear to be so many who will celebrate precisely the aspects that I see Biblically as most lamentable and embarrassing." Southern Baptist leader Albert Mohler Jr.

Yep. TWENTY YEARS before. How shocking that people change their views over that amount of time. Didn't take Barry nearly that long to "evolve" on the matter of gay marriage.

FTR, if evidence emerges that Trump while in office is doing the same sort of abusive stuff Bent Willy did while in office, I'll heartily support impeachment.

Pence got his views from the Bible (Book of Esther) and the Bible didn't change from then to now. By changing his views he just showed that he never believed it. Trump is his new God and savior just like how the Israelites made the golden calf right in front of God's face just to provoke him to anger.

Except for those whose heads are full of immutable concrete, people's understanding of Scripture changes, even though Scripture itself does not. My beliefs have changed significantly in the past ten or fifteen years, and "yugely" in the past 30 or so.

Recently, a friend broke a bone in his arm because he failed to get a grip; failed to take his situation seriously, failed to concentrate, was too casual, and as a result he was unprepared for the impact. Paradoxically, had he been going faster he might well have been more alert and been able to ‘roll with the punch’ and come away unscathed. Casualness, inattention to detail and lack of concentration are the source of many of our problems large or small; it could be just about anything from banging your head on an open cupboard door to nuclear warfare.

So, Christians, I put it to you that God IS thoughtfulness, and you participate in God by participating in anything, thoughtfully.

That's one of the worst analogies I've heard in quite some time, FF. God is thoughtless because your friend had an accident?

              Bless your heart.

You know that I hate to critical but what I said was NOT “God is thoughtless” but “God IS thoughtfulness.” I bless you back.

I agree with Mr. Pence. I also suspect that his views haven't changed, and he's working with Trump in spite of his many flaws, not because he no longer cares about this.

Still kind of a weird analogy.

Pence is in a tough spot - he has to show proper respect to the office of the President, even while knowing the guy has many flaws. And, yes, I think Pence probably believes he's in that position "for such a time as this".

Also there have not been any accusations or incidents of Trump having any affairs since he was elected.

I have said before I almost wish they would impeach Trump so Pence would be President. I think he would make a better one morally. But not so sure if he is aggressive enough to get things done. My only worry is he might end up being another Jimmy Carter.

I just read this again - it sounds like Pence was unknowingly making a case for why he and his wife should be First Family. Could well happen! I pray that it does.
