LEVITICUS 20:9 - For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

How do the literalists on the Christian Right who interpret every word in the Bible as divinely inspired integrate Biblical verses like LEVITICUS 20:9 into their theology?

What did they say when you asked them?

Or are you merely being rhetorical here?

      Why is this in civics?

I'm not sure exactly what is being asked..... isn't this a Law of the Old Covenant?

I say look at the context. This was a situation where the family was the pillar of society. This also wasn't just a one-time thing. This was more often a lifestyle offense that had finally reached a peak. In order to bring about the good of the society, the death penalty was enacted.

I say let's see referenced documentation of that context.

Zeluvia suggested "cursing" had something to do with evil magic. One TWebber said it was for children who forced out their parents without support. Jack Bauer said that was closer to the actual reason.

Belief in Literalism does not mean that we believe that all things in the Scripture are equally binding. For instance; we no longer perform animal sacrifices. The injunction you mention was an aspect of the ancient Israeli civil law as revealed by God specifically for them.

You seem to be confusing inerrantism with literalism. They are not the same thing.
