Is anybody missing an 8 cm long grasshopper?
In the weekends I work in a bird sanctuary during the summer. Last saturday I found a grashopper about 8 cm long in the building where I work. Since native, Danish grasshoppers are around 2 cm long, I knew this wasn't a "wild" grasshopper.
In the exhibition building there is a terrarium with insects, so I guessed that the grasshopper had escaped from there. Consequently I took the grasshopper to the exhibition building and asked, if it was one of there's. It wasn't, but they accepted to keep it anyway.
Of course, I got somewhat curious. Where did the grasshopper come from? They are not obvious pet animals. Also I would like to know, what species is was.
The gasshopper was, as mentioned, around 8 cm long. All green, but with a brown stripe down the back. Not much to go by, I know, but maybe enough for some suggestions as to the species.
Thanks in advance for any responses

It wasn't a grasshopper ... it was obviously a baby dragon.

Seriously, you live in a port town, correct? It's possible that Hoppy was an import, coming in on some shipping. Outside of tat, I fear I don't even have any good guesses.Life sometimes needs to be grabbed by the throat and beaten with a lead pipe. ~ Sir Longpost, a good friend of mine.

You missed out on an opportunity. Lookee here :
Chocolate Covered Grasshoppers
Ingredients:
- baker's chocolate
- candied crickets
Melt baker's chocolate in double boiler. Fill molds halfway with chocolate, add grasshoppers, fill rest of the way.
A tasty surprise in every one!
Of course, you only had one of the critters - you needed lots more.

Oooooohhh, then it could be the second coming of you know who
(At least, if Drachronicler is right)
I did some asking around, and I have found that it's all due to GLOBAL WARMING. Yes, because of global warming, the summer has been unusually wet this year, and therefore the grass has grown unusually well, which in turn means that there has been a lot more food for the grasshoppers.

Oh, sorry those things are always getting out of the lizard cages. I use them for lizard food see, and a few somehow always escape. It drives the girlfriend crazy but the cat loves it. If you spot anymore let me know so I can grab them and re-feed them to the lizards.

Can you describe the shape of the body? It would be easier. i.e. Did it have a rounded or more "pointed" body? Were the legs close to the body, or spread out? Things like that.

.
In my opinion, the single most telling piece of evidence that shows how poorly we're manifesting our call to care for animals is the recent creation of factory farms. Over the last century we have, to a large degree, reduced farm animals to commercialized commodities whose only value is found in how efficiently we can produce and slaughter them for profit. Consequently, more than 26 billion animals each year are forced to live in miserable, overcrowded warehouses, where there is absolutely nothing natural about their existence and where they are subjected to barbaric, painful, industrial procedures.
This is a far cry from what God meant when he told us to exercise "dominion." (Pastor Greg Boyd.)
