When you do a Google web search for "Melissa Scott," this thread clocks in right at number six. It really took off, didn't it ?!

      >

In my opinion, the single most telling piece of evidence that shows how poorly we're manifesting our call to care for animals is the recent creation of factory farms. Over the last century we have, to a large degree, reduced farm animals to commercialized commodities whose only value is found in how efficiently we can produce and slaughter them for profit. Consequently, more than 26 billion animals each year are forced to live in miserable, overcrowded warehouses, where there is absolutely nothing natural about their existence and where they are subjected to barbaric, painful, industrial procedures.
This is a far cry from what God meant when he told us to exercise "dominion."

If that is the case, then replace Melissa with an incompetent teacher who rejoices in the spirit and let Melissa focus on singing. Let's see how that works out.

Does she only preach from Romans and Corinthians or what. It is like a Pauline ministry, rather than a Christian ministry. This is one of the reasons I have been searching for a new Church, pastors are scared to venture outside of the Epistles.

I preach using the lectionary so I'm preaching through the entire bible on a regular schedule. That's why I like the lectionary, it provides a unified and wholisti approach to the Bible. Every Sunday there are four inter related pericopes. One from the OT, one from the Psalms, One from the Epistles, and one from the Gospels. It works out very nice for preaching and avoids the tendency some preachers have of simply sticking with the Epistles. Of course its easy to stick with the epistles. They are basically lectures with clear lessons. It doesn't take nearly as much work to unpack so Preachers stick there a lot.

Sooner or later you just figure out there are some guys who don't believe in God and they can prove He doesn't exist, and some other guys who can prove He does exist, and the argument stopped being about God a long time ago and now it's about who is smarter, and honestly, I don't care. ~ Don Miller Blue Like Jazz

She often teaches series on the letters, which may make it feel like that is all she does. But if you watch her regularly you will get lessons from anywhere in the Bible. She teaches from Genesis, Exodus, Deuteronomy, Isaiah, Psalms, etc. She's on three days/week, so there are many repeated episodes. I would like to see them dated or numbered across the bottom of the screen, along with the passage being studied.

My husband also uses the Common Lectionary as a guide to balanced preaching, which also aids him as a bi-vocational preacher.

To be honest, his lessons are much better when he lets the Spirit guide him to the lesson.

Geez. There's always something to criticize, isn't there? "Entertain me!"

Don't like her singing, turn it off. She doesn't sing for your approval. Her praise team ain't so hot, either, but they don't sing to please you and me. They sing to praise God. And they do.

Of course that assumes the Spirit does not guide the use of the lectionary. I think that's really not a definsable position. I don't like this idea that somehow the only way the Spirit "works" is when we're doing things "off the cuff."

I go away for a week every year at a monastary I know. I spend the week in silence reading the lectionary readings a head. I sometimes work as far as 6 months out. As I begin I ask for God's Spirit to be in the process, guiding. Just because I'm doing it six months out doesn't mean the Spirit is somehow absent or not as clearly leading.

Too touchy. No need to be defensive.

I didn't say the lectionary was a bad thing, nor that the Spirit doesn't lead through the lectionary. I said, basically, that his lessons were better when they were his own. They are. And I was only speaking of him.

Pastor Melissa Scott is also know by the name Barbie Bridges. She is a former porn star and Playboy playmate. Look it up on Google. She is a fraud, and a Edited by a Moderator Have you ever seen her actually write any of the stuff on those boards she uses in her shows? No. Contrary to popular belief, she speaks only one language, English. Research it and you will find that she is no more than another in a long line of Charlatans.
