      ἀλλ᾿ εἰσὶν ἐξ ὑμῶν τινες οἳ οὐ πιστεύουσιν. ᾔδει γὰρ ἐξ ἀρχῆς ὁ Ἰησοῦς τίνες εἰσὶν οἱ μὴ πιστεύοντες καὶ τίς ἐστιν ὁ παραδώσων αὐτόν.

      Transliteration:
      all’ eisìn ex humōn tines hoi ou pisteuoúsin. ȩ̄dei gar ex archēs ho Iēsoũs tínes eisìn hoi mē pisteúontes kai tis estin ho paradōsōn autón.

      Translation (ESV)
      "But there are some of you who do not believe." (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.)

      Analysis (Zerwick):
      ᾔδει : pluperfect (with imperfect meaning) of οἶδα : he knew.
      ἀρχή : beginning; ἐξ ἀρχῆς from the beginning (article often omitted in prepositional phrases).
      μή : in Hellenistic Greek used to negate all moods of the verb other than indicative.
      παραδώσων : future participle of παραδίδωμι; ὁ παραδώσων who will hand over/betray ; in reported speech, who would betray ; one of three times (Lk 22:49; Mt 27:49) that the future participle occurs in the gospels.

      καὶ ἔλεγεν· διὰ τοῦτο εἴρηκα ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐδεὶς δύναται ἐλθεῖν πρός με ἐὰν μὴ ᾖ δεδομένον αὐτῷ ἐκ τοῦ πατρός.

      Transliteration:
      kai élegen; dià toũto eírēka humĩn hóti oudeìs dúnatai eltheĩn pros me eàn mē ȩ̄ dedoménon autō̧ ek tou patrós.

      Translation (ESV)
      And he said, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father."

      Analysis (Zerwick):
      διὰ τοῦτο : this is why.
      εἴρηκα : perfect of λέγω : I told you ; the next words refer back to verse 44.
      : subjunctive of εἰμί, with perfect participle forming periphrastic perfect passive subjunctive.
      δεδομένον : (it has been) granted, perfect passive participle of δίδωμι.
      ἐκ : for παρά by.

      Ἐκ τούτου πολλοὶ [ἐκ] τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ ἀπῆλθον εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω καὶ οὐκέτι μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ περιεπάτουν.

      Transliteration:
      Ek toūtou polloì [ek] tōn mathētōn autoũ apēlthon eis ta opísō kaì oukéti met’ autoũ periepátoun.

      Translation (ESV)
      After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.

      Analysis (Zerwick):
      ἐκ τούτου : either causal, for this reason, or temporal, after this.
      εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω : literally "to what lies behind"; back ; ἀπῆλθον εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω Hebraism turned back ; turned/fell away.
      οὐκέτι : no longer.
      περιεπάτουν : 3rd plural imperfect of περιπατέω went about as disciples, a Hebraism.

      ὑμᾶς τοὺς δώδεκα : the twelve of you.

      After this Jesus travelled round Galilee; he did not want to travel round Judea because the Jews were seeking to kill him.
