NA27 Text (John 6:64):

ἀλλ᾿ εἰσὶν ἐξ ὑμῶν τινες οἳ οὐ πιστεύουσιν. ᾔδει γὰρ ἐξ ἀρχῆς ὁ Ἰησοῦς τίνες εἰσὶν οἱ μὴ πιστεύοντες καὶ τίς ἐστιν ὁ παραδώσων αὐτόν.

Transliteration:

all’ eisìn ex humōn tines hoi ou pisteuoúsin. ȩ̄dei gar ex archēs ho Iēsoũs tínes eisìn hoi mē pisteúontes kai tis estin ho paradōsōn autón.

Translation (ESV)

"But there are some of you who do not believe." (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.)

Analysis (Zerwick):

ᾔδει : pluperfect (with imperfect meaning) of οἶδα : he knew.
ἀρχή : beginning; ἐξ ἀρχῆς from the beginning (article often omitted in prepositional phrases).
μή : in Hellenistic Greek used to negate all moods of the verb other than indicative.
παραδώσων : future participle of παραδίδωμι; ὁ παραδώσων who will hand over/betray ; in reported speech, who would betray ; one of three times (Lk 22:49; Mt 27:49) that the future participle occurs in the gospels.

NA27 Text (John 6:65):

καὶ ἔλεγεν· διὰ τοῦτο εἴρηκα ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐδεὶς δύναται ἐλθεῖν πρός με ἐὰν μὴ ᾖ δεδομένον αὐτῷ ἐκ τοῦ πατρός.

Transliteration:

kai élegen; dià toũto eírēka humĩn hóti oudeìs dúnatai eltheĩn pros me eàn mē ȩ̄ dedoménon autō̧ ek tou patrós.

Translation (ESV)

And he said, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father."

Analysis (Zerwick):

διὰ τοῦτο : this is why.
εἴρηκα : perfect of λέγω : I told you ; the next words refer back to verse 44.
ᾖ : subjunctive of εἰμί, with perfect participle forming periphrastic perfect passive subjunctive.
δεδομένον : (it has been) granted, perfect passive participle of δίδωμι.
ἐκ : for παρά by.

NA27 Text (John 6:66):

Ἐκ τούτου πολλοὶ [ἐκ] τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ ἀπῆλθον εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω καὶ οὐκέτι μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ περιεπάτουν.

Transliteration:

Ek toūtou polloì [ek] tōn mathētōn autoũ apēlthon eis ta opísō kaì oukéti met’ autoũ periepátoun.

Translation (ESV)

After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.

Analysis (Zerwick):

ἐκ τούτου : either causal, for this reason, or temporal, after this.
εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω : literally "to what lies behind"; back ; ἀπῆλθον εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω Hebraism turned back ; turned/fell away.
οὐκέτι : no longer.
περιεπάτουν : 3rd plural imperfect of περιπατέω went about as disciples, a Hebraism.

εἶπεν οὖν ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοῖς δώδεκα· μὴ καὶ ὑμεῖς θέλετε ὑπάγειν;

Transliteration:

eĩpen oun ho Iēsoũs tois dōdeka; mē kai humeĩs thélete hupágein?

So Jesus said to the Twelve, "Do you want to go away as well?"

Transliteration:

Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have(A) the words of eternal life,

καὶ ἡμεῖς πεπιστεύκαμεν καὶ ἐγνώκαμεν ὅτι σὺ εἶ ὁ ἅγιος τοῦ θεοῦ.

Transliteration:

We believe and know that you are God's Holy One.

ἀπεκρίθη αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· οὐκ ἐγὼ ὑμᾶς τοὺς δώδεκα ἐξελεξάμην; καὶ ἐξ ὑμῶν εἷς διάβολός ἐστιν.

Transliteration:

Jesus answered, 'Have I not chosen the twelve of you? Yet one of you is a devil.

Translation (REB)

We believe and know that you are God's Holy One.

Analysis (Zerwick):

οὐκ : not, interrogative particle expecting the answer "Yes".
ὑμᾶς τοὺς δώδεκα : the twelve of you.
ἐξελεξάμην : aorist of ἐκλέγομαι pick out (for oneself), choose ; οὐκ ἐξελεξάμην have I not chosen...?.
καί : and yet.
διάβολος : (< διαβάλλω slander) ; ὁ διάβολος the accuser, the devil ; here without the article : devil.

He meant Judas son of Simon Iscariot. It was he who would betray him, and he was one of the twelve.

After this Jesus travelled round Galilee; he did not want to travel round Judea because the Jews were seeking to kill him.

ἤθελεν : imperfect of θέλω sometimes used in the sense of "dare" (a word without Semitic equivalent).

Translation (NRSV)

Now the Jewish feast of Booths was near.

ἑορτή : feast, festival.
σκηνοπηγία : (σκηνήν πήγνυμι fix, pitch a tent or booth) Festival of Booths/Tabernacles, celebrated Tishri 15-21 (end of September) to commemorate the wanderings in the wilderness (Lev. 23:39-43; Deut 16:13-15) and in thanksgiving for the grape harvest.

Transliteration:

So his brothers said to him, "Leave here and go to Judea, that your disciples also may see the works you are doing."

Analysis (Zerwick):

μετάβηθι : aorist imperative of μεταβαίνω go from one place to another, move on, leave.
ἐντεῦθεν : from here.
ὕπαγε : imperative of ὑπάγω depart, go away.
θεωρήσουσιν : future of θεωρέω witness, see ; here future follows ἵνα.
σοῦ τὰ ἔργα ἃ ποιεῖς : "your works which you are doing", the proleptic σοῦ a Semitism [BG: "A certain prolepsis, also redolent of Semitism, is to be found where the subject of a relative clause is anticipated by a pronoun in the main clause." ¶206].

οὐδεὶς γάρ τι ἐν κρυπτῷ ποιεῖ καὶ ζητεῖ αὐτὸς ἐν παρρησίᾳ εἶναι. εἰ ταῦτα ποιεῖς, φανέρωσον σεαυτὸν τῷ κόσμῳ.

Transliteration:

oudeìs gar ti en kruptō̧ poieĩ kai zēteĩ autòs en parrēsía̧ eĩnai. ei taũta poieĩs, phanérōson seautòn tō̧ kósmō̧.

Translation (ESV)

For no one works in secret if he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.

κρυπτός : hidden, secret.
καί : coordinate for subordinate "no one does something in secret when he wants to be known publicly".
ζητέω : want.
παρρησία : (< πᾶς + ῥῆσις full liberty of speech) frankness, openness, ἐν παρρησίᾳ in the open, known to all.
εἰ ταῦτα ποιεῖς : "real" condition : if you do these things.
φανέρωσον : aorist imperative of φανερόω : show.
σεαυτόν : yourself.

οὐ δύναται ὁ κόσμος μισεῖν ὑμᾶς, ἐμὲ δὲ μισεῖ, ὅτι ἐγὼ μαρτυρῶ περὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ πονηρά ἐστιν.

Transliteration:

ou dúnatai ho kósmos miseĩn humãs, emè de miseĩ, hóti egō marturō perì autoũ hóti ta érga autoũ ponērá estin.

Translation (NRSV)

The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify against it that its works are evil.
