What Does The Term "Virgin" Signify?
Asking because in a survey of 900+ middle- and high-school students, 30% believe oral sex destroys virginity, and 84% believe anal sex does. Because this last figure is very close to the percentage of Christians in the USA (82%) is this something Christians are teaching their children? If not, should they be?

Yeah:
"Kids, stop being so retarded. Let's think about this for a second. If oral sex was sex, then the following odd situation must be accounted for. A girl and a guy (both virgins prior to) are having oral sex, when the parents break in before it is the fella's turn. Now, are you going to tell me that they both lost their virginity when the dude kept his pants on the whole time? Or perhaps the girl lost her virginity while her sexual partner kept his?"

"Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.
The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.
And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace

There's a difference between keeping your virginity and keeping your purity. We teach our kids that BOTH are critical to maintain until marriage.

Re: What Does The Term "Virgin" Signify?
I always understood the loss of virginity to be when sexual intercourse occurs. I don't think orgasm matters...I know there are plenty of unhappy people that have sex all the time and don't climax; they're still having sexual intercourse. Oral sex does not constittute a loss of virginity, IMO. However, I think anal sex could be considered loss of virginity if it happens between 2 males.

Re: What Does The Term "Virgin" Signify?
The quote is stating that there are both moral and physical aspects of virginity, and that rape, while it does destroy the physical aspect of virginity in a woman, has no bearing on her morality. The victim of rape is morally clean, without shame, and considered every bit as chaste as anyone else who doesn't willingly engage in extramarital sex.

Re: What Does The Term "Virgin" Signify?
How old are middle and high school students?
Is it that they "think", that it is their "opinion" that oral/anal sex constitutes a loss of virginity? Or that they were taught it does.
Also I think there is a difference between physical virginity and emotional virginity. A girl who goes "all the way" with a guy in anal sex may not be a technical virgin, but there is not much left to discover emotionally as far as that is concerned. It used to be that most girls who marry as virgins haven't even SEEN a naked man, let alone had anal sex with who knows how many men before that. Virginity and purity/innocence are related I think.
And also, speaking of "signify", what does your sig mean Minn?Vigilante: When will Pixie realize she digs me Mononoke?
Mononoke: Maybe never.
Vigilante: I don't know if I can live with that Mononoke.
Mononoke: Would you like to know? Try it.

Mononoke is not being nice.
