The "explain your avatar" thread
My apologies if this is in the wrong forum.
Like the name implies, explain the meaning of your avatar, especially if it's some niche reference only a few will get (like me).
Mine is fairly simple. It's a Stargate reference. On the left is actress Amanda Tapping, who plays Captain/Major/Col/Samantha Carter. On the right is Richard Dean Anderson, who played Col./Gen. Jack O'Neill. He's also known for playing MacGuyver in the 80's.
Both characters have a fan following supporting them hooking up and becoming a couple. But, like X-Files, it never happens despite the fanboy (and girl) pleas...
But don't they look so happy together?

Trout uses my avatar for target practice, or to prove he can't shoot straight, or maybe both.

Mine has to do with a nut who accused all the mods of being 'power hungry' and 'vipers'.

Re: The "explain your avatar" thread
My avatar is for my alumnus campaign. If you read my signature, you'll understand most of it. Anyway, I'm in the lead by about 10 votes, so my avatar is a very happy panda. If someone catches up or ends up with more votes than me, I'll change it to a nervous or even sad panda.
Here I am!

Re: The "explain your avatar" thread
"Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.
The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.
And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace

twt-ankhn-st-amn
Means something like "living image of the god of the desert wind" or something like that. I forget, it's been too long since I studied hieroglyphics. All those meanings could be in there; I'm just not sure of the sense when grouped like that, especially the syllable "st," I'm not sure if it's a noun, verb, etc.

Re: The "explain your avatar" thread
My avatar is a pic of the "Goliath sherd". Quoting from another thread where I already explained it:
It's a (pottery) sherd taken from Tell es-Safi in Israel with two words in "Proto-Semitic", an old Canaanite language.
Quoted from wiki:
"These two names indicate that names similar to the name Goliath were in use in Philistia during the Iron Age IIA, at just about the same time as Goliath is described in the Bible. Although not a proof of the existence of Goliath, it does provide nice evidence of the cultural milieu of this period."
It indicates that the name Goliath is quite plausible in old Philistia. Just one more indication of the historicity of the Bible."Christianity," says Bishop Wilson, "inscribes on the portal of her dominion 'Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, shall in nowise enter therein.' Christianity does not profess to convince the perverse and headstrong, to bring irresistible evidence to the daring and profane, to vanquish the proud scorner, and afford evidences from which the careless and perverse cannot possibly escape. This might go to destroy man's responsibility. All that Christianity professes, is to propose such evidences as may satisfy the meek, the tractable, the candid, the serious inquirer." http://www.woundedheart.org/sgtestimony.htm
