      And...

      do NOT weigh yourself every moment !!

      only put healthy food in your fridge!!

      do not go into a supermarket with an empty stomach

      and if you go crazy, nuts, or otherwise insane, and you absolutely need to eat that piece of pie or chocolate..... try this:

      eat it fully naked in front of a mirror..... see if you enjoy it still.

      Honey, hating yourself is not a good diet strategy. Eventually, you find it doesn't work and you give up completely. I know I'm fat - I see no benefit to making myself hate myself.

      I just don't eat processed food or fast food much anymore and I move when I can. Find excercise you like. A leisurely walk around a nice lake will suffice as long as you do it. Cut out sodas and I also cut down on the dairy like whole milk and switched to some goat milk or plant based vitamin fortified milks. It worked.

      There are some tips that I want to share with you people on the weight loss
      Drink plenty of water
      Join a diet journal
      Make short goals
      Join a Gym and at least spend an hour on work out daily.
      Keep a strict check on your diet.

      Thanks for this nice post anthrogirl it is a good helpful post and all the 10 steps are best to be followed. 7th point is the best one and can be very handy.

      I give you some tips for weight lose some healthy diet.
      You can eat food like vegetables and fruits . You should do exercises. Do running, do walk and can join a gym .You can drink water 10 times i a day because with this you can easily reduce your weight. Can you imagine i reduced my weight 5 kg in last month .So try these methods.

      Calories are not the only consideration. Carb vs. protien is huge, too. That consideration determines if your body burns calories immediately or stores them long term. Cut out the carbs and your body begins to burn stored calories at a higher rate. There's so much more to being healthy than people think.

      Who is saying something about hate yourself???? You should hate the chocolatebar you insist on eating while being on a diet! And after you have eaten it, you do not feel good about yourself at all, yet when you manage to resist it, you feel wonderful and powerful. The mirror might help in that desperate, lonely moment. It helped big time for me and it keeps me in shape as well.

      I'm glad it works for you - but making fat 'evil' or food 'bad' usually ends up with self-loathing because you (general) will not always succeed. Guilt only makes you feel worse and those who have emotional eating issues will self-medicate with Baskin Robbins. Baskin Robbins isn't the problem - it's that it takes a heck of a lot more than those little sample spoons to get the ol' endorphins moving. Bliss, then guilt, then Ben and Jerry's - the cycle is self-defeating.

      Positive reinforcement (I'm back in my skinny jeans!) works. Negative reinforcement (I'm so fat!) rarely works for more than the short term - often it ends up staring in a Blue Bell bucket wondering where all the ice cream went.

      Better is to decide to change your weight for your own self-satisfaction. Let it be okay if you aren't perfect - and if Dairy Queen gets an occasional visit. Long term success is rare for the morbidly obese - most diets don't make it past the 2 year stage. The keys are moderation, exercise and contentment. Contentment doesn't mean settling for the status quo but being happy with who you are - and what your body is like - now and changing what you want to as you can. Hating yourself over Haagen Daz will perpetuate emotional eating; loving yourself (not egotistically) even though you aren't perfect and can't wear size 0 will let you work out those eating issues and give you a shot at long term success. It also gives you a shot at sanity if long term success isn't yours.

      For the record, I'm obese. I've done all the diets (except low fat - ick), exercise classes and even a gastric bypass (and no, it didn't stretch that much - Zoloft is a bad plan when dieting). I'm starting on plan Z - and I have little real hope of long term success. I'll do it for myself because there are things I want to do but I won't look in a mirror and tell myself how ugly I am. I'm not ugly - I'm me.

      Teal I do not make fat evil or food bad. I hope you realize that it is not the mirror who makes you hate yourself and makes you feel ugly, but you looking into it, i.e. your preset mind to what is beautiful and should be loved or vice versa.

      There is a huge difference in being on a diet to lose weight and to battle against obesity. The latter cannot be overcome with a diet as the cause of obesity is hardly ever a matter of calories. Even the emotional eating is in most cases just another layer (smoke curtain) to a much deeper hidden issue inside you. It takes a lot of courage to look that deep into the dark cellars and deep shafts of your psyche for whatever it is that was put there..... and even more to bring it into the light.

      This thread asked for some tips on losing weight. And my post (of more than a year ago!!), particulary my remarks regarding the mirror, were meant for those like myself who were on a diet and meant to lose a few pounds because they had eaten too much and too wrong lately.

      I am very sorry to hear that you are obese. I did not know. Yet I have seen a very strong and smart Teallaura on this board and I am quite convinced that you will win your battle. In my opinion it is one of the severest and most difficult to fight. It is also one of the most misunderstood as most people in their utter ignorance, think that one just should eat healthier, skip stuffing oneself with junk, and practise more sports. Such a pity that on top of all that, one has to endure that as well.

      Anyway, once again, I wish you great success in your path. And I truly hope that you will find supportive and loving people around you. If in any way my post has made you upset, pls know that it was not my intention at all.

      No, I was never upset and I appreciate your kind words. But understand, those who are fighting obesity will visit threads like this and as I said, what works for you will be destructive to them. That was my reason for debating the point - not because I was upset about myself.

      When we are going to take a dieting program, always keep in mind one thing that use the maximum natural products and pills to loss the weight. In this way you will be save from the side effects of the dieting programs.
