Re: December 2007 Screwballs
"Get a grip" ? ..."Please" ? Our "history" now, you say ?? Read that history !
I had answered your question; now I see this. This doesn't involve you, but I understand that you are at the top of the list of those I said were JP's loyals. (So) I wasted my time in venturing one more post in here, to you. You really do not see ill will in that comment/suggestion ? Wow. You're one of the boys...blinded by scholarship !
<--hey, aren't these smilies a kick ? They drive just about anything you want to say right into the other guy's gut.
In my opinion, the single most telling piece of evidence that shows how poorly we're manifesting our call to care for animals is the recent creation of factory farms. Over the last century we have, to a large degree, reduced farm animals to commercialized commodities whose only value is found in how efficiently we can produce and slaughter them for profit. Consequently, more than 26 billion animals each year are forced to live in miserable, overcrowded warehouses, where there is absolutely nothing natural about their existence and where they are subjected to barbaric, painful, industrial procedures.
This is a far cry from what God meant when he told us to exercise "dominion." (Pastor Greg Boyd.)

Re: December 2007 Screwballs
Sorry, I know that double-replies are verboten, so feel free to ignore or delete this post if it's too egregious a violation of campus decorum. I didn't respond to this point before and would like to engage it briefly:
Do you have statistics on exactly who it is that JWs and Mormons are converting? Are their converts predominantly church-attending, actively engaged Christians, or are they more likely to be lapsed Christians or non-Christians who are attracted by the spiritual-sounding, quasi-Christian presentation of the Mormons and JWs?
I think the answer is important because the presence of false doctrines is not, in and of itself, indicative of the wholesale failure of the church. Consider that during the NT era, the church was awash in false and heretical doctrines. Did Paul flagellate himself over the existence of every new wind of false doctrine? No! He condemned the falsehoods and urged believers to adhere to sound doctrine.

Re: December 2007 Screwballs
What a shock. None of them get it.
JPH knows what he's talking about. Even if you disagree, he does not come uninformed. If he sets the record straight and you keep insisting he's wrong without reason, well that's when things get heated.
And again, I do know JPH. Perchance next time you get into a disagreement, it might be better to start asking him "Why do you think that?" instead of constantly asserting that he's wrong without having any reason whatsoever to back your statement. JPH and I are both sick of the way the church is going today.
And this time we disagreed and discussed it? It happened at his own house at the breakfast table. There was no huge battle taking place. It was okay. We had no problem with it.
For those of us who have actually met JPH, what we have heard from the other side is laughable. JPH is one individual that I would always delight in any chance to get to see again and he knows it. If he's ever passing through Charlotte, he's welcome.

these screwball threads are getting tiresome. all we have are idiots coming in here starting fights. I want to read the nominations, not the idiots whining about their nominations.

OK. Go on outside and wait for me. If I'm not there in 5 minutes, start punching yourself without me.

Oh...in Jesus' day, anyone who resorted to physical retaliation was considered the big loser....
Sparko, if that suggestion works out, his can be the first posts to go.....jwarrend's next....it's contrivances like the one MM just quoted that are all the reason why I Ignore him now. No, actually, that's a recycled one, from here:

But anyway, one more case of speaking without knowing from Vance....I can't make out much sense from the rest of the rant.
Other than that he shares a penchant with Loftus to not leave when he's said he will.

Re: December 2007 Screwballs
Notice how it's pretty much just you at this point? And I don't think you understood what Nick was saying. He said that there wasn't a difference.
Good for him. My only complaint is that he did not draw you with a pacifier and a bonnet. The man even draws custom cartoons to mock those who disagree with him. He did it to me last month, just for kicks. See what he drew for me below, OK ?
Let me let you in on a little secret: JPH's behavior is reciprocal. It means that he responds to you like you respond to him. You have only yourself to blame for your supposed 'mistreatment' (I think it's pretty deserved though) because you were both too foolish and proud to see that, and you have only your hurt feelings to blame. In other words, you fell for it. You became a laughingstock because of your pride, that's all. That one was labeled: "La La responding to my posts !" He likes to get battles going with people. He 'softly' bullies people right up front, and if they respond poorly he will push until he gets a full fledged fight underway. That stinks !
Actually you came pretty close to going the way of Rupert Pupkin there. From the looks of things you may still be close to acting like him.I really did try to deal with others (first), last month--that issue--quite seriously and generously. Ask Nick; I mainly wrote to him, BTW ! Nick is a good guy, but now James felt the need to prematurely swoop down and deposit his lower award on me before I knew what I would have to ultimately do, to have creds with him: study the book of Acts. And I responsibly did that, but no retraction would ever come for me.
Good for them. Now if they'd so kindly get with the program and learn how to do this (you do remember the disaster that was their debate with the RR Squad, right? I thought they were very evenly paired--and that is not a compliment.), they would not be so incredibly ineffective with folks like the RR Squad and any that they've had contact with. In fact you've just proven yourself no less prejudiced towards Tektonics than how you portray JPH. That sword cuts both ways.As for the superior cynical formal nomination; check it out: The WOTM is there among the atheists and such in JPH's now finished November Screwballs, the couple sentence long quote deceptively left open, as if the ministry teaches a method of evangelism that is unbiblical. It is featured there because JP is badly biased when it comes to the [overriding] role that he insists apologetics must have in the person-to-person, natural, practice of actually fulfilling Jesus' great commission.
I just have to say: your grammar and syntax goes right out the window when you're flustered. Can someone tell me what His command is, and how they see JP's way of doing this is/has been working well--yes, towards this supreme mission Jesus left to His followers ?!
Yes, it can be said that JPH's ministry has been working very well. Because this thread does not comprise his entire ministry--surely you realize that. Because not everyone has the Quixotic drive to challenge every other Christian ministry they don't necessarily approve of.
Edit: Seems I just noticed something. It was Tektonics, not Way of the Master, that was included in the list of online resources in Case for the Real Jesus. Something to think about, no?
Um, I'm neither reconstructionist nor dominionist. If you're whining about eschatology you're probably too thin-skinned to post on online forums anyway, or you went about it the wrong way, both of which are probably true.* Heads up, uninitiated Christian people coming here: This forum can be grievous for those who aren't dominionists and reconstructionists. And then there's the eschatology thing you might get wrong. Don't be "stupid" !
First, it's not mine: I scanned it from The Door Magazine for DeeDee after a comment she made one night in Paltalk. Second, I think they did a very fine job on that comic and that both Left Behind and whats-his-face deserve lampooning. You will also note that either whats-his-face nor the LB authors pitched a hissy fit about it.One last thing. Rayado, do you remember this picture of your's; it blasts "my" eschatology and one of the WOTM people too. What are the odds ?
Right. Didn't even give me a chance to respond before you Loftusiczed and...If someone has written to me since Rayado--well, I'm sorry but this post is my last here in screwball IDing country.
...waitaminit, are you sure you're not Doubting John?Okay, I finally have a blog.
