Re: That's It!!! Vista Stinks! Looking for New OS for Laptop.
I just started using Leopard last week. I can't tell you how much I love it.

My most recent faith struggle is not one of intellect. I don't really do that anymore. Sooner or later you just figure out there are some guys who don't believe in God and they can prove He doesn't exist, and some other guys who can prove He does exist, and the argument stopped being about God a long time ago and now it's about who is smarter, and honestly, I don't care. ~ Don Miller Blue Like Jazz

practically your only choices without buying a new computer are:
Linux or Windows XP.

BSD doesn't get the attention Linux does, but there are some pretty decent desktop BSDs out there that are actually quite practical. Ubuntu still is probably your best bet tho.

I'm assuming here that you're not looking to buy a Mac. If so, then I would second the vote for Ubuntu. I had a great experience with it on my Dell laptop.
You can go to www.ubuntu.com and get a live CD—which means that you can boot directly from the CD without changing anything on your computer to get a feel for how the OS works.

Yeah, it depends. Dell's hardware was always good for making that stuff easy. You just hit f12 during boot up and it gives a device menu. Choose CD and you're good to go.
Not sure what the process is on Teal's comp. I doubt it's any more complicated than that, though.

Thanks, everyone.
It took me over an hour to figure out how to save music from a memory stick onto the hard drive.
Over complicated, stupid, rename everything ...
Never did get the thing to acknowledge that it had already imported everything!
It's a Compaq with way too much HP _____ still on it.
Same one I could never get to upload AVG (still haven't uninstalled that mess, either...
)
Anyway, the Ubunto trial run sounds good - isn't there something similar for Linux? Seems like there is... :cs: What about Leopard?
Hey, if I gotta learn a new system anyway I might as well kick a few tires and find one I really like.
Thanks everyone! (
Except Tuck who thought I wouldn't get that DOS crack...)
