      Speech and Drama

This is a thread for all players of the geek sports in high school and college, Speech and Drama.
Some people, such as Thespia, went on to make them a career. Does anyone still participate, or follow competitions, or donate time as a judge?

Well, does band count? I'm in the marching band and basketball band at my college, and I thought about being a music major for a while.

I did a bunch of theater in high school, and I still do a little bit now. Not a whole lot, but a little, mostly improv stuff.

I've gotta ask, Paint. "Basketball Band"?

And when I was in highschool I did choir, drama, and I was in our creative writing club. In college I headed up our philosophy club. I guess that's as nerdy/geeky as I got. I don't still participate in any of the above in a formal way, unfortunately -- other than watching plays or music nights at my old schools. I wish I had the time to do more.

      Re: Speech and Drama

I had an advantage in high school drama....I was so small I looked like an 11 year old at age 14. So when I was in 8th grade, I got the part of Winthrop Paroo in the high school presentation of The Music Man. A junior high kid getting a leading part in a h.s. play was a big deal.
Yeh, I was in band too. I actually lettered in all three of those subjects, but I only lettered in band because I was in it all 4 years of high school. I was a mediocre sax player at best.

      Re: Speech and Drama

Basketball band is a pep band. If you watch college basketball games, you'll see a small band. It's not very big, maybe 45 or so. Unlike football band (marching band), which we had 275, and that's a mid-sized college band. In HS we marched an average of 90 or so. I'm a low brass man, my primary is tuba and I'm decent on it. I can manage a trombone or baritone okay, but not the same as a tuba.
