.avi files
Hi I'm trying to make an animated avatar but I need to download an .avi file first.
I want to download my favorite video from youtube, but it isn't allowing me to.
Do any of you know where I can download music videos in the .avi file format?
Thanks so much.

Re: .avi files
There is a converter to download the Youtube format and convert it into avi, however, I forgot what it is called and I don't personally use it. It shoudl be easy to find with google however.

Re: .avi files
I've been googling for the past hour and a half, and haven't found anything helpful.
Google used to allow this but it isn't allowed anymore.
Is there a way to just download a video in .avi format from the internet.. I guess that's what I'm asking.

Re: .avi files
this will let you download the flv file:
http://www.downloadyoutubevideos.com/
it's viewable in VLC, and convertable by ffmpeg, at least.
Just a note, $cir is right. -Sparko

Re: .avi files
MPEGs are simple to turn into GIFs, as well, depending on what you use to do it.

I don't have VLC.
I'm using Animation shop 3 would that work or would I need some other program to do it in?

Re: .avi files
OK.
Here are some .mpeg files I found online here, but I can't seem to save them or open them in Animation shop.
Maybe when someone has some extra time, they could take me through the steps of downloading an .avi video file, or some type of file and then converting it to a .avi, and how I can get it to show up in animation shop where I can manipulate it and only use the part of video that I want to show up in the avatar.
I really want to follow Jack Bauer's tutorial here, but I don't even know how to do the first step in Method 1 that says "start with a .avi file".

Re: .avi files
This is the youtube converter you will need to get to avi
http://keepvid.com/
Here is another tutorial that is the way I make animated avatars with Animation Shop

You will need Power DVD to be able to do that, but seriously I have multiple legal copies of the program (XP only) and if you want it, paypal me five bucks to cover shipping and give me an address, and I will get you one. Otherwise I got some on the cheap at ebay and/or amazon used sellers. PowerDVD is a great program for getting screenshots to your clipboard.

Re: .avi files
Thanks Darth.
Hamster you were right, Animation shop does convert a file into .mpegs.
After 4 hours of searching yesterday and combining all of the information that you all have given me...my brain finally "clicked" and I figured out how to put everything together.
Here's my finished product from the music video Apologize by OneRepublic.

Yay, thanks so much everyone!

Re: .avi files
Sure, get with me later. I think I found where you can download the version I have, and all I will need to do is PM you the license code. I have like three or four licenses for this thing. I kept misplacing the paper and buying new copies
so I would be more than happy to give you one, I only need one.
