VLC is the file format, (like *avi), the program converts VLC to MPEG, which is viewable on all Windows systems

E: Wait, FLV is the file format. With that program you can convert it to MPEG

VLC is a media player (www.videolan.org/vlc/).

It plays any and everything.

Also, OP, if you use firefox, there's an add-on called unplug which allows you to grab flash content off the internet.

I want a Mac DVD player that will let me advance frame by frame and use command+C to copy screenshots to the clipboard. I have found nothing - to me that is amazing.

I don't know about the frame-by-frame play, but can't you always just pause and Option + Shift + 3/4.
