    Car Body Work

So I have to see a car body shop for damages done to my front fender during an accident. I don't have collision so....

Any tips? Hopefully I get to see them tomorrow.

Funnily enough I'm waiting for the panel beaters to call me in to repair our car after we got re-ended the other day.
(our excess is waived as the other driver readily admitted fault ... which means I don't have to pay $500 I really can't afford right now)

I've never heard that. But again. I've never dealt much with body work specialists.

ask for an estimate to fix it, and one to just move it off of the door so you can open and close the door for now. And I would get at least three estimates. If you like one guy better but his price is higher, you might be able to talk him down by mentioning the other quotes.

And make sure they agree to charge you no more than the "estimate" - make it a fixed quote. That way they can't come up with "oh, it took longer than we expected" or "It took a few extra parts that we didn't expect" and raise the price afterwards.

Yay, the insurance will cover it all. I had forgot I paid for uninsured property damage as well as the minimum. But I'll have to pony up for the rental car. The plan is for the car to go in on next Tuesday for 5 days. Parts have to be ordered first.

I'm seriously thinking about putting the rental car option back. I have no other car...

It's going to about a thousand to replace fender etc. The headlight works, but it was popped out a bit on the far side so I wouldn't be surprised if it has to be realigned. It's been years since I last looked at that cost, and it wasn't cheap then. We'll see.

One thing I've picked up on was the idea of recording all the damage to the car before turning it in for repairs. I like the idea but I wonder if it's necessary if the repairs were already identified to the company. Just how much more damages can be claimed without someone asking why?

if the repairs were already identified they may ask questions if there are more.
