Barnhouse's work is not a commentary, it is a series of sermons that at best loosely relate to the topic. Achtemeier's is ok, but he does not look at the text very closely (which tends to be the problem with that series in general).

I'm sorry that I confused you by mentioning Barnhouse's work, but if you'll note I didn't say that any of them were commentaries nor how good they were. I prefer a diversity of opinions so I can make an informed choice as to my own.
3 books on Galatians you might be interested in looking at:
1) James D. G. Dunn's The Epistle to the Galatians for Black's NT Commentary series (Hendrickson, 1993)
2) C. F. Hogg and W. E. Vine The Epistle to the Galatians (Kregel, originally published 1921)
3) Frank J. Matera Galatians for the Sacra Pagina series (Liturgical Press, 1992)
A good book to read on Romans to get a read on the "current" debate is The Romans Debate edited by Karl P. Donfried (Augsburg, 1977). I seem to recall seeing some place that it has been updated. When the critics have been proven to be so wrong on so many things, and some are quite simple, why should we trust them on anything?

Yeah, the updated and revised edition was 1998, IIRC. I have it myself, but I am not at home right now.
The Sacra Pagina series in general is good, but they tend to be a bit more difficult to find. I am also trying to stick with mostly recent stuff, but I'll bear that in mind.
For Galatians, you might want to look at Richard B. Hays book on it, though I am blanking on the name right now. Something like The Faith of Christ: The Narrative Substructure of Galatians 2:1-3:11.For true conversion, click here.

Re: New Testament Commentary List
I found the Sacra Pagina series on the web. Try various online bookstores.
Regarding Hays: The Faith of Jesus Christ: An Investigation of the Narrative Substructure of Galatians 3:1 - 4:11. (Scholars Press; 1983) Society of Biblical Literature Dissertation Series; v. 56. It is listed on an online bibliography on Galatians: http://rhetjournal.net/Gal.html After eliminating the foreign language material and adding material that I have found I'm up to 613 items with only a fraction of that actually obtained and/or read!

Re: New Testament Commentary List
Actually, I just got Brendan Byrne's Romans from Sacra Pagina. I plan on reading it over spring break to see what it says.
I have Hays' book, I just did not have it with me at the time. It is pretty good, though his starting presuppositions are what sink the project.
Also, it came out with a reprint in 2001. The reprint is much better because it includes new essays by Dunn and Hays in it.
613 items on what, Galatians, or for your NT list? I have a lot on my list also (no idea how many), but this thread is set aside for NT commentaries. For true conversion, click here.

No mention of Silva on Philippians?
I'm surprised you didn't mention Moisés Silva's fine commentary (perhaps the finest imo) on Philippians - first published in the Wycliffe Exegetical Commentary Series, and then in the Baker Exegetical Commentary series. Both volumes are nearly impossible to obtain today however.

That was why I did not mention it. It is not even listed as part of the series for BECNT right now. All of the commentaries (with the exception of Schnackenburg) that are listed are availible. We allow ordering through our site from CBD since we are partnered with them.
I am currently reading a book by Silva and it keeps mentioning his commentary, but for the life of me I cannot find his commentary anywhere in order to buy it.For true conversion, click here.

Silva's commentary on Philippians is truly one of the more difficult books to find - I can't find it anywhere either. I just bought another difficult-to-find book - Beckwith's Old Testament Canon of the New Testament Church - signed by the author no less. Picked it up for $100 plus shipping. Ouch! I hate trying to purchase out of print books.
How's your OT910 paper (which interacts w/ Silva no less ;-) coming?
