More barbarity in Saudi
Another day, another act of unspeakable barbarity by our allies:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/mid...st/7244579.stmHuman Rights Watch has appealed to Saudi Arabia to halt the execution of a woman convicted of witchcraft. In a letter to King Abdullah, the rights group described the trial and conviction of Fawza Falih as a miscarriage of justice.
The illiterate woman was detained by religious police in 2005 and allegedly beaten and forced to fingerprint a confession that she could not read."To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour"

Hell and Heaven grapple on our backs, and all our old pretenses ripped away. God's icy wind will blow.

Yeah, what does Saudi Arabia think this is? The late 1700's?

Re: More barbarity in Saudi
This sort of thing reminds me of the hypocrisy of our drawing support for the war in Iraq because "Saddam's a bad guy". But when our "allies" get into this sort of thing (i.e., cozy corporo-fascist crony supporters)- or for that matter, rwanda, or darfur- much, much worse than anything Saddam ever did- we did nothing. Oh, but it's a noble thing, because we're freeing the Iraqi people from this horrible person. If the basis of our foreign policy is to free people from horrible oppressive governments, then there are plenty of places my dollars could be better spent than in Iraq.
Don't hate me because I'm beautiful. Hate me because you want to be me.

I've been there and yes, it is a hell hole. The few Saudis I got to meet, we were briefed on how to look at them, shake their hand, stand, and sit around them. If we violated any of their rules, we were escorted out of the place we met them. I saw a guy get escorted out for shaking one man's hand with both hands.
