Since he contradicts himself about pretty much literally everything, any action he takes or doesn't take on any subject will be surprising, because nobody would have expected it.

but liberals will forever be loath to admit it.
Those dang liberals, still so loathe to admit how great Nixon was!

Actually Nixon wasn't all bad. He started the war on cancer, and reopened negotiations with China. Sure he wiretapped the Democrats, and had multiple places bugged... but in all fairness the NSA as practically the entire country bugged, and nobody bats an eye.

Since when is Nixon held up as a great Presidential example? Given his opening up of trade with China and his getting us out of Viet Nam, you'd think the liberals wouldn't mind him so much.

It was a joke. Try reading it in a mocking tone.

The problem with Nixon wasn't really the wiretapping, it was the subsequent coverup after Watergate, similar to how what got Bill Clinton in so much trouble wasn't the affair but the lying about it. The funny thing is that Nixon was so popular (his re-election was one of the most one-sided in US history) that he probably would've still easily won if he hadn't covered it up.

Jokes depend on some basis in reality. I know you were trying to joke.
