Brother Vinny's Dictionary!
In the spirit of Ambrose Bierce's The Devil's Dictionary, and other satiric dictionaries that have followed, I present to you daily (or, as often as I can manage) entries from Brother Vinny's Dictionary!
Today's inaugural entry:
The Plot <th& 'plät>
Apt title for dead theolgy suitable for little else than burial.

Open Theism, a theology that reduces God to being a pretty good guesser.

If I have a mystical experience, an experience that's so overwhelming that I know now that there's a God, the cognitive fallout from that is irrelevant. The fact that that experience can be explained by psychologists in numerous ways is irrelevant to the fact that I now know.

September 28th 2003, 07:21 PM #10Truth to tell, I really don't see as how I can be, as it runs counter to what the Church teaches about God's knowledge. I still believe we have free will, and that we're morally culpable for our actions. And no, I'm not sure how it all fits yet, but I'll be working on it.
Ouch for the misery suffered under that particular paradigm. And ouch on your first entry.

Brother Vinny,
I would be curious to know if you still consider those that hold to dispensational theology, your brother or sister in Christ? If I have a mystical experience, an experience that's so overwhelming that I know now that there's a God, the cognitive fallout from that is irrelevant. There'd be a lot more strife around this house if it were otherwise.

:bv:
(In fact, I even consider those anti-Catholic Christians as my brothers and sisters, but it's a little difficult to fellowship with them.)
