They may need face to face interaction, therpeutic intervention or a course of medication.

Your comments may be well-meaning but they are naiive. As much as I love the guys here (well most of them at any rate...) it was medical assistance that helped me deal with my depression, not impersonal contact across the WWW.

Please be careful when levelling criticism of this kind. You don't know the thought or the stories behind these necessary policy stances.

Indeed, and it is ongoing medical assistance that has helped me overcome my own depression. I do not speak from a stance of naiivety.

It is indeed wise to advise such individuals to seek medical assistance, but what I am saying is that it is unwise to turn your back on them, especially as you say you don't want it on your conscience if they do anythin stupid. I'm not at all suggesting that you try to deal with them entirely by yourselves. I just know how I would have felt if I'd been rejected in this way in my darkest of hours. I can totally see that the members here are not equipped to deal with people with suicidal thoughts.

And I think you guys are WAAY too touchy - I was offering constructive criticism, which is a positive thing. Not everybody can agree on everything, which looking around this forum, I'm sure you can appreciate.

That wasn't why I used the term. It's not a function of your own mental health experience

Fifi - you're just repeating yourself, so all I can do is repeat myself: TWeb is a semi-anonymous community of non medical practitioners. Let me say again: You don't know what lies behind that decision, so all I ask is that you trust the TWeb decision makers that do.

And I think you guys are WAAY too touchy - I was offering constructive criticism, which is a positive thing. Not everybody can agree on everything, which looking around this forum, I'm sure you can appreciate.
Careful; you're expanding a specific to a generality here. Only I have answered you here and while I don't agree with your reading my response as "touchy", it's certainly wrong to impute that to people who haven't commented at all on the matter.

I know feedback genuinely offered is welcome, but please bear in mind that policy changes do have reasons, often specific.

      Lather, rinse, repeat.
