I'm thinking of joining a church...

The Flying Spaghetti Monster seems to be the most sensible way for me to maintain my intellectual integrity and still conform to the demands of theistic ways of thinking.

I'm not being faceitious. I could honestly say I belong to a church and that I am a man of faith...so long as there were no requests for further elaboration while also still having lax rules and intellectual freedom.

Plus it is full of kicks and giggles. I love reducto-ad-absurdum.
Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.

Hopefully there are no demands for tithing or singing really wretched hymns

I am going to order the manifesto to examine all the rules before jumping in, but I did see a request for donations and they have a gift shop online. Looking at the gift shop...I think I've found my stocking stuffers for next year!

If it's like Christianity...the rules won't matter, you can just make up any that suit you.

If anyone from the church challenges you, say that you're from the Orthodox Church of The Flying Spaghetti Monster, and that you can trace your doctrine back to the original disciples.

Indeed! I will bake the new 95 Theses into my pasta and serve it to the church leaders. We will introduce the idea of the Meatball, Pasta, and Holy Parmesan trinity. You will have to hold just out of the oven pasta in your hands to prove that you trust the Pasta Father who will protect you from burns.

It brings a whole new reality to the metaphor of religion as a doctrine buffet where you pick out what you want and leave out the rest.
