Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing
The unforgettable you and the Unforgetting God…
Shalom!
“Remember me, LORD, when you show favor to your people; come near and rescue me.” (Psalm 106:4, NLT)
Whenever I see or read any reference that asks God to remember me I usually whisper something like this, “God, I don’t think I really need to remind you to remember me after all how could you forget me I’m about as unforgettable as anyone can be?” Which brings me to the question – Do we really need to ask God to remember us or is there and underlying reason for reminding Him to remember us?
I can only speak for myself but there are times when I think of myself as Mr. Fixit Myself and God becomes “Plan B” and I know God well enough to know that He doesn’t and won’t come in second to anyone. Every once in awhile I think I can hear Him saying, “Okay Mr. Fixit Myself if that’s way you want it then so be it.” And God goes into to a “stand back and I told you so mode.”
If you’re getting the idea that “Remember me God” is a reminder not for God for me that “Gary, you need God so drop to your knees, repent and put Mr. Fixit Myself on the deceased list”, you’re right. As I said early I can only speak for myself but if there’s a Mr. (or Mrs.) Fixit Myself lurking inside of you get past the idea that God has somehow forgotten you and see the words “Remember me God” is for you not God who wants and needs to be number ONE in your life.
Because God is an Unforgetting God I am getting much better at remembering Him first. It has taken me quite awhile to put Mr. Fixit Myself to rest because I can still hear that little voice inside telling me, “Gary, you can do it yourself.” However, on the other hand I still can’t just sit back and not help so I now whenever I can I do the easy fixing and leave the difficult fixing up to God. And you know what? He’s a whole lot better at fixing then I could ever be!
Believe in presence of the GOD and in the strength of his GRACE!
GRACE and PEACE,
Gary
