Don't you think that's a little self-centered as it's original audience existed a long time ago?Originally posted by Theostudent
it is written for us personally, but not yesterday.
Some of it, yes. Not all of it.It does have practical application."I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened."
"So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you were also meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought."
-Frodo and Gandalf the Grey in Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
"Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire."
-The Talmud, quoted in Schindler's List
"Many folk like to know beforehand what is to be set on the table; but those who have labored to prepare the feast like to keep their secret; for wonder makes the words of praise louder."

Re: Geisler on DJ's book
Willful, unlawful killing is murder. The pharisees claimed the woman had been caught in the act, yet her accomplice was conspicuously absent from the proceedings when Jewish law made it clear that both parties were to be stoned for adultery. Therefore, to put the woman to death would not have been in accordance with the law; hence murder.
4They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
Well, he does wrong, but surely, I tell you, he at least knows he is wrong, he confesses his sin.He excuses and justifies it from what I've seen. He also has no problem with telling bald-faced lies if it fits his agenda. He's also openly declared war on Christianity, so make of all that what you will.
Hard to see something that does not exist.I spelled it out for you already. If you still can't see then that's not my problem.

More than you know, so I say. Some of it, yes. Not all of it.

Thing is, I don't know if this qualifies as a teaching. It's more of just an occurrence that was showing us something about Jesus (though sometimes those have practical applications as well). But yes, every teaching has a practical application.Originally posted by historic salve
Can you show any other teaching of Jesus in the Gospels that doesn't have practical application?
Sure does happen alot here.I notice we've gotten pretty far off topic."I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened."

The Coming of the Son of Man
24 “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, 25 and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
The Lesson of the Fig Tree
28 “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. 30 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
indeed,perhaps.Perhaps.

Wow, that opens up a whole new issue. But suffice it to say that "this generation" refers to Jesus' generation, not us.Originally posted by Theostudent

The legions in Judaea were not there to pick flowers, and you may want to check out a fellow named "Pompey" and find out what he had to do with the Jews.
No. That indicates that the Jews contradicted their own laws by their actions, not that the Bible was internally contradictory. So do you agree that the bible is contradictory?
Just don't fall off the Boardwalk again. With the market like it is, I am sure to get a great buy!
