      If it ever happens..

I'm not saying I will ever do a podcast, really. I'm not.

But if I did... I'd need an opening theme. I'd probably want something original, something I made myself or someone else made for me. I don't really know what style of music I would want. However, here's something that fits with the whole "Beretta" theme, and it uses the name of the blog ("Say Hello to my Little Friend").

I haven't listen yet to the clip - I will. But I would recommend for anyone a guy who runs Podcast Themes who wrote the opening music (and now closing music and a couple of bumper) for my podcast. The price was very reasonable for someone writing original music, and I gave him some ideas, and his first shot was right in the ballpark, only went through two tweakings, and it was perfect.

I like what you came up with. You might want to shorten up the music only part a bit unless you are planning on starting the fade and voice over pretty much into it about 15 secs.

Yeah, you're right about it being kinda long. Here's a shorter version, which I prefer.

      Re: If it ever happens..

I don't think I've really talked about it much, but before I started my degrees in theology, I studied music. In particular, my main area was production, but I also did a lot of music making - including drum sequencing and small time recording of stuff.

Looking at music software again has really been an awesome flashback into those days, and with the better and cheaper technology now (I did those studies from 1995 to 1997), I can do this stuff at home for very little cost. Some cost, but not much. I've found a really awesome sequencing program that only costs $30 to register, and I'm sampling drum sounds from my MP3 collection - stuff I could never have done back then.

I'm not on the lookout for some guitar gear - actually one preamp/effects unit with speaker emulation would do it, and then heck, I can start recording some awesome stuff, and not lame fake electronic sounding stuff either, I'm talking seriously heavy stuff! Effectively (thanks to the sampling I've been doing), I now have access to the drum kits of Def Leppard, Megadeth, Giant, Stryper (yes, Stryper) and any band I like (well, so long as I can get a clean sample of the drum sounds I need).

Oh, and in the meantime there's some fun (but not very serious) software out there that I've been messing with to make quirly little pieces of "bumper" music like this. It's the kind of thing someone might play between two different sections of a podcast. It's not really my usual style, but meh:

Oh woops, earlier in this thread I said that "I'm not on the lookout" for some guitar gear. I meant to say "I'm NOW on the lookout...":

I'll ignore that laughter coming from the peanut gallery.

As I make stuff while trying stuff out, I'll post it here. I like this next one:

      Re: If it ever happens..

Well heck, if I'm not just diving into the deep end.

I actually PAID for music software! Yeah, I know, shock horror. But it was only $30 to register, and it's the coolest, easiest sequencing software I've ever used.

Oh, and I also started a website to do this podcast music thing a bit more seriously - egged on by DDW - and my wife, actually, plus it's an idea I was toying with when I started this thread. All the great, obvious URLs were already taken - by scumbags who just have ads plastered all over them, and who are trying to sell the URL to people who anyone who actually wants to use it!

But anyway, my very brand new site is www.podcastermusic.org , and I started building it a couple of hours ago. I like the look of it. Bold, and simple. Very simple. It's a lot like me. The wording and stuff is just a rough first draft and most of the pages aren't even up yet, but you'll get the general idea.
