      Any good recipe software?

can anyone recommend a good recipe program? I want something that I can put my recipes in, and be able to search by type of recipe, or ingredients, etc, and importantly to print out a shopping list.

So I could perhaps check off a few recipes that I want to cook that week, and it would give me a list of ingredients I need to buy.

Free would be nice but cheap would work too.

I used have Now You're Cooking on the computer for the wife about 10 years ago...we don't use it now, but back then, it was a pretty good piece of software.

I don't know of any software, but there are tons of websites out there that probably do all that stuff.

      http://www.kraftcanada.com/EN

(There's probably an American version of this one......)

      http://www.homecookingmagazine.com/

      http://www.robinhood.ca/homepage.asp?lid=1

      http://allrecipes.com/

      http://www.cookingcache.com/

      http://www.recipezaar.com/

      http://www.epicurious.com/

(This is my son-in-law's favourite site, but he's a trained chef, so that might explain it......)

There's a few for you to check out Sparky. I don't know if they all have the options you want, but I have been able to print out the recipes and find shopping lists and so on with some of them.

      Re: Any good recipe software?

I am trying Shop'NCook Menu and Big Oven.

The first one is $49, the other is $20

S&C is pretty neat, you can cut and paste recipes from websites and it knows how to "read" them and separate the ingredients from the instructions and puts it all in the database for you. Then you can pick your recipes and create shopping lists. Seems to do everything I want but it's $50.

Big Oven is not quite as nice, it also has a cut and paste function, but it is kinda dumb on the ingredients part. If you have a recipe that says Egg and another that says Eggs, then it shows up as two ingredients on the shopping list. but its only 20 bucks

      Re: Any good recipe software?

This one is geared toward Once-a-Month/freezer meals, but I don't see why it wouldn't work for regular recipes as well. They have a free 30-day trial, too. (I haven't tried it)

If you do try it, I'd love to hear whether you think it's worth the $ (it's $29.95 or $39.95)
