". . . Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not: Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. . . ." -- Matthew 11:20-22.

Apologetics 301 Guidelines
If you think this is the area where you tell everyone you are sorry for eating their lunch out of the fridge, it probably isn't the place for you
This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. That is, the section on the map labeled Old Tyre must as a matter of logic be nowadays abovewater.
Further, we read about Phoenician pre-Alexandrian ruins being on land, sometimes underneath the present Greek ruins:The most important recent archaeological find in a Phoenician cemetery from the first millennium B.C. Discovered in 1991 during clandestine excavations, this is the first cemetery of its kind found in Lebanon. Funerary jars, inscribed steles and jewelry were among the objects retrieved from the site.
Excavations have uncovered remains of the Greco-Roman, Crusader, Arab, and Byzantine civilizations, but most of the remains of the Phoenician period lie beneath the present town.
It must be true IMO though that some of Tyre must be underwater. I heard that the harbor is now underwater, particularly a getty.
Take for example Alexandria, whose port is now underwater:
Probably a comparable portion of Tyre would be underwater, EXCEPT that in the case of Tyre, a huge causeway was built up, keeping much of Tyre in fact above water. Without the causeway, indeed much more of Tyre would be underwater like much of Alexandria is.
Anyway, I think it would be wrong to say that Alexandria has been destroyed by the sea, only that a major portion was flooded.
BTW, why did the Romans call their city by the name Sour?
Tyrus is the Roman/Latin name for Tyre. What makes you think that the Romans would pick an Arabic name for a city when the Arabs didn't invade until centuries later?
Tyre, modern Arabic Ṣūr, French Tyr or Sour, Latin Tyrus, Hebrew Zor or Tsor, town on the Mediterranean coast of southern Lebanon,

One idea is that the best thing to do when looking at each claim is to evaluate it on its own merits, rather than going in bearing in mind your underlying opinion. For example, if you evaluate the issue of Tyre's rebuilding in prophecy bearing in mind a belief that the Bible can't be wrong, then you can tend to bias the results in that direction.
The other way to evaluate it is to say that you know that the Bible cannot be wrong, therefore however strong the obvious facts look that Tyre was rebuilt and its descendants live there today, it is impossible that Tyre was in fact rebuilt.
Which of those two approaches do you prefer?
