  • Tim O' Neill's post on Richard Carrier

Good morning guys, I've just read Tim 'O Neill's latest post criticizing the mythicist Richard Carrier on his History for Atheists blog. Here's the link to it: http://historyforatheists.blogspot.c...ispleased.html. I think it does a good job taking apart Carrier's arguments for the most part as well as taking apart his anti-religious views to a certain extent.

It's good. Also see Tim Hendrix's critiques of Carriers' pseudo-Bayesian technique as applied to the historicity of Jesus:

And see just about anything (but especially his "Final Word") that Luke A Barnes has put on his blog critiquing Carrier's pseudo-Bayesian technique as applied to the fine tuning of the universe:

Hendrix and Barnes take Carrier's "Bayesian" arguments apart in principle, in practice and in extensive detail. Bayes is quite technical for mere educated laypeople like you and me, which is what Carrier relies on in his Edited by a Moderator and bollocks; but as you will see, those competent in the field rip him apart as an incompetent.

I've read Mr. Hendrix's critiques of Carrier use of Bayes' Theorm as applied to the existence of Jesus as a historical figure David. Needless to say, they were dead on in taking Mr. Carrier's arguments apart.

Dr. Carrier has a new book coming out, just begging for your review: Science Education in the Early Roman Empire.

And there happens to be an ad on the Amazon page as I'm reading it for "The Second Coming of the Judeo-Zoroastrian Jesus of the Dead Sea Scrolls" by Cyril Glasse, which ought to be a howler.

He and I just got into a twitter debate. He's been silent now, but it was making the point that his mythicism is directly comparable to YEC. (That's not an insult to YECs, but simply that an atheist like him would not want to be seen as thinking the same way as a YEC)
