      Report: Climate change threatens security

Global warming may increase illegal immigration, terrorism

      updated 2:45 p.m. CT, Wed., June. 25, 2008
WASHINGTON - Global warming is likely to increase illegal immigration, create humanitarian disasters and destabilize precarious governments and could add to terrorism, all of which could threaten U.S. national security, according to an assessment by U.S. intelligence agencies.
"Logic suggests the conditions exacerbated (by climate change) would increase the pool of potential recruits for terrorism," said Tom Fingar, deputy director of national intelligence for analysis, who testified before a joint House committee hearing Wednesday.

So much for the argument that global warming would be a good thing...

You call yourself cynical. I'm cynical or, rather, skeptical about pronouncements from government organs, especially those that look like scare agitprop.

You should note that I'm a cynical idealist, rather than purely cynical.

It's more about being indecisive. One day I have no faith left in humanity, and the next I'm thinking that we're making progress. sometimes I find myself feeling that both are true at the same time.

pfft, they are actually worried about where all the old people from Florida and the inner city New Yorkers will have to emigrate too.

      Kansas is scared.

I am worried about Alaska. On the other hand this seems to be an especially cool summer - and it came late too.

Re: Report: Climate change threatens security

meh. i'd be more worried about socialism and totalitarianism destablizing regions prone to terrorism and emigration than global warming.

i'd be even more worried about creep socialism in the US as represented by Obama and those more liberal than even him.
